sodium carb huge crystals..what went wrong??

I did the BLAB on 2g of fumerates in a 80ml beaker. i amde a super saturated carb solution.warm water to where no ore would dissolve. after adding 3mls a time(the pippete i have) i was sueeing it stopped clouding but there was like a top brown film and then cloud then solid. i attemped to stir wiht glass rod and the brwom was a goo that stuck to it. i used a lab spatula and got that gunk back in. couple hours later it setles wiht the rest. by next moring the water was basically clear and then a slight mix coller layer ofer a white layer. hours later it was diefintely clear after scrapin sides to see. I poudred off into a coffe filter. I coulnd believe ALL of the big chunky crystals.nice big rocksalt srystals. i tyed maunally separating the offcoloe from the white crystals on bottom after dumong them on glass pieplate

When they got dry i weighted over 4 grams of crystals! Wait.... I started wiht 2 grams. so i trying melting crstal on pipe. big white powder stain. tryied someonf the brown gunk and it melted and got a buzz. Now decided i need to get someof the sodium away from the DMT. I washed tehm in water wiht a touch of s carb to make sure wter was not acidic. they shrank some but not neough. Actually the 4 gram weight was after i did this..it was more before. that was becuase i too the first try without a dab and though i might be acidic on tap water and the pruduct shrank more than expected.

I decide to take my crystals in acetone, because acetone should dissolve DMT freebase but not the s carb. I had to smash the crystals with my galss stirrer because nothing seems to be happening. i dumped off the acetone in a petri ish and dumped the leftover undissoved salt(scarb i think) after using a hairdryer i onl had .335 grams for 2 grams fumerate! :twisted: this was after the fumerates were washed in acetone prior to storage. I then meltd the brown gunk in acetone. some melted the other didnt. i tasted the residue and i seemed to be unreacted fumarate. after the acetone dried was left with .2 gram... sotthats onlly .5-.6 from 2 gram fumerate..where did the dmt go?

what am i not doing right?

i thought DMT is not soluble in water after being freebased..right?

It went wherever you dumped your "undissolved salt"

Acetone does not dissolve dmt that well, so you just threw out most of your dmt instead of just the socarb.

EDIT total mistake by me, harmalas i had were not very soluble in acetone

How clean were your fumarates? Were they from FASI or FASW?

How fast did you add the sodiu carb solution? I find adding slowly works best.

Also one thing I think possibly happened is, you shouldnt have used warm sodium carb saturated solution. Better let it cool down before using, so that excess sodium carb will drop out of the solution before you add it to your dmt fumarate solution.

As for where is your DMT, indeed 0.5 from 2g fumarate is not really good, but it also depends how pure was your DMT fumarate to begin with. If they were impure, thats reasonable. I would do more than one warm acetone pull on everythig instead of just one, to make sure you got all the dmt, maybe you also lost some because of that (And bindu, dmt freebase is very soluble in acetone, maybe you were thinking dmt fumarate, which isnt at all? )

Thanks endlessness, that makes sense. I read to add sodium carbonate until it wont hold anymore so therfore i did. the firsttime it didnt turn out like this. My fumarates is a mixed bag of fasi and fasw. i have done limo pulls after naptha (3rd pull) and one was all through. ive experimented through a kilo wiht STB Limtek and A/B and have colected the fumerates. after having some trun dark, and sticky in vial i washed wiht acetone. I was getting more goo from fasi so i used fasw usyally after the fasi and fasw on the limo that was used in fasi. I wasnt happy wiht fasi when i got a murky orange that would not settle. i found though fasi works great for the 3rd pull after naptha in a 800ml beaker and leaved a thin dark orange coating wiht no murk. i stopped using a large mouth half pint mason jar after finding there is NOT away to empty limo off without spilling down side. Ofcourse i was confused after washing with acetone whether to crape the streaks or not after swishing it in a pie plate..it that the fumaric acid or it someof the fumare residue that was not locked up big enough for eye to see.

I have tryed a fasa also but not sure if epsom salts pure dry. i left over an hour over 450 but never turned grey. gas stove also didnt turn white after 3 hours but figure from moisture in propane. Does it have to turn grey or just to hard crisp cakes and dust? it still is white. i did burn to brown in foil on some spots trying 3 hours
