Is it possible to use sodium carbonate instead of sodium hydroxide? Dmt has a pka of 8.68, and sodium carbonate should be able to take the ph to over 10. Even though not everything won't be freebased, most should, right? Or am I missing something?

Not only is sodium carbonate not really water solubl, But you're going to need some dcm if you plan on extracting dmt at that low of a pk. You need a higher ph to use naptha. Bestine might be better if you cant get dcm.

I just did a sodium carbonate wash on some red/brown naphtha and a pinch dissolved well in 50ml of water. Makes the water feel almost slimy. Wash worked great left me with some slightly yellow naphtha wich is is the freezer now. i used one of vovin's teks to do it. As far as your application for it I don't know lol.
You can dissolve 22 gram of sodium carbonate in 100ml of room temperature water. That isn't so bad?

I just cook baking soda in my oven at 350F for 2good hours and mix it in between and it converts it to sodium carbonate,...i then just add it to some distilled water pinch by pinch and stir it up to let it dissolve in seconds to 1min
And yes,...sodium carbonate makes water feel slimy because its a base,...whenever you freebase a liquid,...it goes slimy...If you ever got NaOH water on your hand accidentally and had to wash it off quickly,...you noticed that it is VERY SLIMY because its a very powerful base.

i just did an a/b with sodium carb and it worked. I used bark that I had already done a vinegar water boil on though for a previous a/b becasue I didnt want to use all my other bark on a tek I was unsure about..and I never weigh my yields so I dont know what it was..but there was def DMT still in that bark and it def got pulled.
I boiled the bark in vinegar water, filtered it..added lots of sodium carb while stirring it in..pulled wth xylene..there was some eumulsion I broke with salt..then then I salted the xylene with vinegar and evaped it on a double boiler with some caapi tinctue onto some leaf..made sure all the vinegar smell was gone..
Smoked 4 times back to back earlier..its very strong changa..and also the smoothest I have ever smoked..the stuff is soo dense and jsut clumps together in the vial I stuck it in..

Good to know fractal. I have now quams with using NaOH myself but don't reallycare for the fumes off xylene. I have a LOT of xylene though so now I know if I run outta lye and the store is out as well the extractions don't have to stop. Also I'm guessing if xylene will work so will limonene.
