Sodium Hydroxide - Flakes or Pellets?

I've always only had access to pellets, but just found flakes. Flakes seem like a better option. Is there a preference of one or the other?

As long as its sodium hydroxide its sodium hydroxide no diff. I use chunks because mine has been sitting around a wile it all dissolves in water so no problem using any form.

Dunno, it just seems like flakes would dissolve better. The only other thing (which I realized after my post) is that the flakes are only technical grade, and the pellets are ACS. I'll just stick with the pellets.

SWIM's used flakes before, but he couldn't determine whether it was 100% lye, but then he found crystals that were clearly identified as 100%, so that's what he's used since. He's in the process of converting to lime at the moment, however.

flakes will dissolve faster, but both dissolve rapidly in water. not the same if dissolving in alcohol, however. if buying online anyway, KOH is far superior to NaOH imo. but like many others, i am trying to do away with lye altogether, because it isnt necessary.

Would like to convert to lime as well. I've only seen smatterings of attempts and questions on here however. Is there an accepted tek out there, that is working well for people? Sorry, I've been away for a while so I've missed some of what has evolved in the tek world here.

EDIT: Just found amor_fati's non-toxic tek on the wiki. Will examine and ask further questions if need be. Thanks again!
