Sodium Hydroxide/Lye/ - 2 Questions

Migrated topic.

INSANEPOOKIE

Heya. This is the only non liquid form of Lye that I'm able find at our local stores (which, it could be that I haven't looked in the right places): http://www.drano.com/clogged-kitchen-drain/default.aspx [img:ae63650527]http://users.easystreet.com/pookie/img/prod_kitchencrystals.jpg[/img:ae63650527] Per the MSDS: [img:ae63650527]http://users.easystreet.com/pookie/img/sod.JPG[/img:ae63650527] http://www.carter.k12.ky.us/RiskManagement/MSDS Copies/Drano Crystals - SC Johnson.pdf Everything I read says ya need a pure Sodium Hydroxide yet this product has Alum Flakes. On another forum a person experienced with extractions says this should still work fine. Due to my need for at least some self preservation I wanted to collect more opinions as to the safety of Alum Fakes after the process is completed. Ok, next question: Here is a local chemical supplier: Home page If you are feeling kind, would one of you be able to provide me with which of these would be suitable? I really wanted to avoid the need to ask questions with the sales rep at the company. This is not in my realm of knowledge so without a near 100% feeling of safety I ain't proceeding. Thanks for your time/help.
