Some minor problems

SWIM decided to do his second tek. He used the basic DMT handbook A/B tek. It seemed to be going real well but there was a couple problems with his final extraction. Firstly SWIM used naptha instead of shellite and muriatic acid.

So everything was going well until SWIM tried to seperate the layers in the final solution. For some reason it wouldn't completely seperate! He waited 3 hours and it was still murky all over with just barely any naptha on top. He extracted anyways of course but, after later observation, then it took a whole day to seperate completely.

Now it was a bit odd because SWIM read that the concentration should turn murky the closer to room temperature the solution approached. But after even placing it in the freezer for freeze percipitation then it was still crystal clear even 24 hours after placement in the fridge. So since the last tek he used was lazyman's tek he decided to try using some of the newly seperated solution for evaporation.

Terrible. It ended up with barely any results and most of which were gooey and wouldn't dry enough to be collected. SWIM was wondering, what's happening? It seems he missed a step but he thought he did everything right...

Sounds like you may have gotten an emulsion. Add more base and/or salt until the layers clearly separate within a couple of minutes of each other. If you shared some more details about amounts used, we might be able to help more. As long as you haven't thrown anything out, the spice is still around.

here's the details of SWIM's experiment.

200g MHRB
Mixed with a mixture of water/hydrochloric acid, not measured but added till Ph went somewhere between 2-4 ph
cooked for 90 minutes
decanted the materials so that only the liquid remained
Added about 150 mg lye to a small amount of water, then added to solution
Added a quart of naptha in 3 installments, shaken thouroughly then seperated with a turkey baster

set in freezer.

So that's how SWIM's experiment went. He came to the same conclusion about the Ph so SWIM added about another 100mg lye and heated it up to help with the bonding, then re-added the naptha, seperated, then placed in freezer. T+ 5 hours seems strange that it still looks clear...

Awesome, I believe I can help. That is a ton of naptha you used there. SWIM usually uses 30-40ml's a pull, so you used approximately 25x what she would use in an extraction. Currently there's so much naptha that the spice won't crash out. The only thing I can think of would be evaporating down until the naptha clouds when you blow on it, but that is going to take a long time and require a ventilated space. Maybe someone has a better idea.

hmm, alright thank for the advice. Guess next time SWIM'll be more prepared. Thankfully then he only used half of his MHRB since it's his second time extracting and knew there could be some complications in learning a new tek. Oh and yeah if anyone else has a faster way to get the spice to crash out SWIM will be really greatful
