well hey guys, i'm not sure this is the best place to post this, but i couldn't post in the garden area for some reason?

any who id like to share with you the start of a visionary forest (garden hehe) i say forest because by the time i'm deep into it i hope to have a plethora or "forest" of different plants in a green house

#1 is my baby that just arrived...... P. viridis SO EXCITED !!!

yes someone thought it would be a great idea to add a poop-ton (not quite a metric ton haha) of nutes to the seedlings while i was out of town and also managed to water the heck out of the big guy

but this is the start to my garden guys, i would have had sinicuichi but the mail guy ended up sticking it in the mail box instead of bringing it to the door and sadly it froze

You're off to a nice little forest! I love growing plants. It takes patience and dedication. Just remember, the greatest redwood and sequoia trees started from tiny little seeds.

You Just had to rub it in that you had salvia haha just kidding, lucky!!!!

& do you have any tips on growing psychotria, such as type of soil ? Hours of light and dark?

I'm acclemating mine at the moment, leaving it in sealed clear humid jar and opening twice aday for about 10min, ill slowly expand the time from 10min of dry air to 30, 60 until its at about half of day then ill leave here in the less humid air of the house & mist it every now and then

How many more years do you have left on that pineapple ? My buddy grew one and it took 3 years to fruit, but it was absolutely DELICIOUS!!!

Soil - Needs to stay moist and have great drainage. Use coco coir or pine bark, mix with some compost and perlite. Avoid clay and peat moss based soils.
Lighting - Should do fine with medium-strong indoor lights of cool spectrum. Probably fluorescents will work well for the first stages. Protect seedlings of direct sun. Light period should be fine in the usual vegetation rates for leaf mass, 18h light, but it's an evergreen tropical bush so perhaps for the whole plant cycle 12h light - 12h dark might be required. Anyone growing it indoors...?

In any case, remember P. viridis really appreciates warm temperatures and air humidity. And don't forget to visit Ringworm's Psychotria Propagation thread. Patience, though

heck yea, thats awesome!!! i too am hoping to get some seeds soon as i feel plants do much better when started and kept in 1 environment. thanks for the tips ill go check out the his thread

and the reason i ask is since acquiring the viridis it has randomly drooped, go figure

Vodsel's chacruna advice is pretty sound. Although, I do have mine in a peat based soil. They aren't doing super well, so maybe I should change the soil. They are ok. They are growing, at least. They got really dependent on high humidity, and when I changed my growing area and lowered the humidity, they were quite droopy for a while. They seem to like a little bit of water every day.

Sorry to rub it in, kinda. Really rubbing it is would be telling you that I have way more salvia than I know what to do with!

As for my pineapple, it is a year and a half old. I started it from the head of a fruit, and it grew quite a bit last summer. Hopefully it will grow a lot more this year. The summers here are good conditions for them, warm and often humid, but the season is short. (I live in the PNW of North America) So, I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a few more years at least to get a fruit.

One of my favorite plants is my pomegranate tree. I had no expectations for that little guy. I bought it on a whim. It's trunk/stem is about the size of a pencil lead, but it's about 18 inches tall. It lost all of its leaves when winter came around so it looked like barely a twig sticking out of the pot! When I put it in my grow room, some how that spindly little twig burst out with a bunch of new leaves and growth! Such a cute little thing.

peat tends to be pretty acidic, also you may want to note, i changed my soil on my viridis about 2 hours ago to 1 part vermiculite and 2 parts perlite and the little guy sprung back up in no time im blown away!!!

and i mean if you have to much salvia i always have room here hahahaha :roll:

& nice, where im at it gets far to cold for the pineapple in the winter so we had to take it inside but it still seems to grow at a fairly good pace indoors, and you have some cool stories behind your plants man!!! thats awesome

i have the same kind of thing with my meyer lemon tree, it was so small and i had no hope, then all the sudden it took off!! now its starting its first little lemons!! im SO excited !! iv been told that when picked at the right time that its actually a very sweet lemon

Older leaves yellowing in veg period seem to point to N deficiency. Unless other symptoms of nutrient burning are visible, and without seeing pics, that would be my guess.

Awesome I've been growing some Chacruna indoors as well.. technically P. Alba

It looks very yellow in this picture but that's just from the light in the room and the flash. The soil it's in is very peaty and has a high ph (not ideal). When I started growing it from a leaf cutting about 6-8 months ago, I didn't know what they liked but it grew (slowly) anyway

Now I know better, but since it's my only one and is doing ok as is I decided to leave it alone and take a leaf to start rooting a few more plants from it in a more acidic, free draining soil.. though now after reading that thread by ringworm, I still don't think it's optimal.. Ah well, I'll start some more when this plant puts out it's next set of leaves. I just want to have a couple stable plants before I start messing around and potentially harming it. Thanks for posting that link Vodsel, I don't know how I hadn't come across that one yet. There's some excellent info in there!

I've also got a bunch of other young plants growing right now. It's how I kept myself occupied this winter=) m. hostilis, acacia acuminate, phalaris AQ1, kanna, voacanga africana, sun opener, passionflower, jasmine tobacco, coffee arabica, silene capensis, and a bunch of veggies for the garden this year. I don't want to hijack your thread so I'll refrain from posting pictures of everything=)

I've been wanting to get my hands on some salvia divinorum cuttings as well but that has proven quite difficult in my area. Next on my list is some caapi.. I just have to wait for the weather to get warmer so it doesn't freeze during shipment

And regarding Psychotria soil, I have reports of Alba growing better than Viridis in lower humidity, and perhaps its soil requirements differ. The risks with peat moss or clay are higher in the longer, more vulnerable stages of germination and rooting (molds, gnats, excess of algae...) but established plants might have a bigger tolerance for different substrate composition.

Thanks! Good to know that Alba may be a little less picky about soil & humidity.. lol, it's probably the only thing that kept it alive during it's first few months I tried to germinate some Viridis seeds at one point in the same soil but didn't have any luck. I might give it another go soon.

I do think this one could use a little more light than what it's getting. It seemed to go through a small growth spurt when I had it under a low power LED grow light that I've since moved. Maybe that was just coincidence, but I plan on revisiting that once I put some of my needier plants out in the greenhouse and free the lights up again.

its for sure over nutes and over water..... someone tried to be "helpful" and way over did the nutes and water.. (keep in mind these little guys just started nuts, so they get 1/8 of what the package calls for, someone gave them 3 times what the back calls for
once it was dry it got a nice transplant into A perlite & vermiculite mix and was flushed with RO water to strip the nutes and now today i can happily say its doing much better \

it looked alittle worse

and this is after the flush and soil change, its looking much better!! and actually its almost back to normal now but the pic was alittle while after

UPDATE- received the Golden teacher spores!! the company must have been feeling generous as only one spore syringe was ordered, but the sent two!! very cool!!!

also ill keep you all up to date if acclimating the viridis to low humidity works its 16% RH here in my home so we shall see how it goes, also ill let ya know how my soil combo is working out

New soil 1/3 vermiculite & 2/3 perlite (seems to like it so far)

I'm on the extended graduation plan because I mostly lurk. I read constantly but rarely post. I think a nearly doubled my post count today alone with these posts. lol

I love the lemon tree. My wife has been wanting one of them for a while. I have a dwaf pomegranate tree that is in a constant state of dying and coming back to life. Affectionately refered to as the zombie tree here. It doesn' like winter and doesn't like the hot summer either but it keeps on keeping on.. even produced a couple tiny fruits this year between death and rebirth cycles;-)

Most of my collection is very young and less than a few months old.. I went plant crazy around the start of winter so most of it is a result of that, but i'll post up some pics anyway.

The silene capensis is one of the younger ones. maybe 4 weeks old. I planted maybe 8 and 3 germinated. They seem happy enough though 2 are right on too of each other so i've gotta try separating them

Also really liking your peppers... i was just browsing some seeds earlier and had added some ghost pepper seeds to my cart but never finished shopping. I got stuck on cacti and couldn't make up my mind. lol

on the s. capensis, how long did yours take to Germ? im planing on growing some my self. and now that you talk about separating, i need to get on separating my pepper plants

Within a week or two, new shoots had appeared on four nodes. It came back from the dead. It is currently sitting on a warm bathroom windowsill, being nursed back to health."
