Recently, people asked why I dislike Mimosa as an admixture in oral brews, so it got me thinking
The simple answer is that I don't trust Mimosa. Any plant has its own energy that you need to be willing to accept in both your body and mind. Not every energy is compatible with you, and your trust develops over time as you see that a medicine benefits you. Every aspect of a journey plays a role here: how easy it is to administer, how manageable the come-up is, how workable the medicine state is, and what you gain after the session.
With some medicines, you can simply relax and let them do their job, while others require your total attention to avoid harming your psyche. Yes, we learn to manage these states and govern the energy to a degree, but some basic trust should still be present. I used Acacia for years with a strong degree of trust, until a few ceremonies made it clear that I would never be able to fully surrender to it.
We are not talking about a few random experiences where your idea of trust is superficial and serves only to help you surrender more easily. Building trust takes time and dedication. Only when you are completely sure of the plant does real safety manifest, allowing you to go deep. Rue is one of those plants, and I cannot find anything wrong with it. No matter what you do, Rue leads to a coherent healing place. I would call it a sanity medicine. I hear very similar stories about cactus and various mushroom species.
Then we have plants that remain forever on the fringe of your trust bubble. Basically, any true medicine for you is one you have full trust in and can surrender to. We are talking about very strong, life-changing substances here, so it is better to choose wisely.
What are your thoughts on the matter?
