Storing Lye?

How long can (Red Devil) lye be stored in a non~climate controlled shed, in it's original container after the seal has been broken? For that matter, how about the same conditions, but applied to VM & P Naptha?

Sodium Hydroxide will last for years. as long as it is sealed, It will clump up real hard, but still work good. I have solvents that are over 20yrs old and still good. as long as the metal container does not rust inside. now acids are a different story, I found an old Miners ghost house here in the SW deserts while 4x4'n, and it has 5gal sulferic acid barrels with crystals growing on the top of them. I won't go near them due to the Boom Boom factor.
