so, the existence of a 0-dimensional closed loop of invisible subatomic string is unprovable, yet this is science's foremost and most advanced theory?
It's not science at all. Infact, it's more akin to beleif in an omniescent god; or an unseen and unknowanable supreme being, forever reliving it's karma
in a place where even spacetime is a mental construction. we call these theories 'unfalsifiable' in that it is yet to produce any experimental predictions
which we can make experiments to measure.
- does anyone know the results from the L.H.C and how this relates to new predictions that string theory might make?

I don't think human beings(or any beings) are really capable of telling what is the "ultimate truth"(about the universe or life) and if there even is one. Any theories about the matters of the universe I find to be only speculations, as these things are impossible(or almost impossible) to put into a single theory. Scientists IMO are far off the center of these matters. IMO these things can't be spoken of with 100% certainty. And those who try come up with poor speculations such as "string theory".

The LHC is i believe, just furthering investigation into particle accelators. They are hoping to be able to prove/disprove existence of dark energy/matter, and other elusive particles.

Im not a physicist, so im not an expert at all.

The latest news that ive read is that the previously released information wherein they claimed that they had created microscopic black holes was actually false, however it could be possible that there is some information that they would not like to release to the public.

I believe that they still have a good amount more time, before they begin reporting any findings to the public.

This applies here. If man can go from trying to light a fire in a cave with sticks, to blowing up h-bombs and exploring outer space, you never know what we will or will not be able to do in the future.. Hell, we might be able to manipulate the strings and control reality :shock:

That would be a bummer... A goverment controlled reality, hahaha although in a sense that kind of exists already.

If you really want to come up to date on string theory and the Holographic Principle, may I suggest the book "Black Hole Wars" by Leonard Suskind. I've read the book three times cover to cover, and each time come away with a bit more understanding. Fascinating physics.

It would be great if string theory could be used to predict the outcome of high-energy experiments that haven't yet been conducted.

I'm still more fond of the idea of our universe existing inside of a black hole of another universe which itself exists inside of another universe which exists inside of another universe ad infinitum.

String theory is constructed in order to reconcile two main theories of physics wich are quantum mechanics and relativity.
Beside string theory there are other theory's, build with the same purpose.

Quantum loop gravity is the most promising alternative.
A prediction made by QLG was that light of higher energy travels through the universe at a slightly slower speed, only detectable when distances of many, many lightyears are being spanned.

This actually happened. The only problem is that the delay did not exactly match the prediction.
This leaves two options.
1-QLG is wrong.
2-QLG is right in what it essentially claims, but it's math's needs to be worked-out further.

I think that it is not unlikely that we eventually will wind up with exactly the same problem that we started with, wich is that we'll have to theories: QLG and stringtheory, that don't match exactly, wich will spark attempts to come yet again with a theory that somehow incorporates both. etc.

My point can be put like this also: if there is such a thing as "ultimate truth", there IMO is no way that it can be put down in words. Things such as "understanding the nature of god" and "the truth about everything" are in my option way deep to be written down in words or conceptualized.
Or another way to put it: How can people really understand and say who or what is god?
This is why I'm mentioning this in theory thread, as some people are trying to put these things in a single theory that leads pretty much nowhere IMO.
There are also many people who search the inner self and god for all their lives and come to realize that there are really nothing to find, as you allready have it and cannot lose it, whatever "it" is.
