Hello Everyone,
I am a medical student and have been wondering whether there are any users that have used harmine freebase or HCL alone long term over days, weeks, months and could elaborate on their experience with it?
How did it effect stimulants? (Caffeine?, nicotine? and amphetamine?)
- There is evidence that suggests it can potentiate dopaminergic stimulants by potentiating the activation of the mesolimbic system by enhancing dopamine release.

How did it effect cognitive function? (Memory? Working Memory?)
- Some papers suggest improvements in short term memory in rodent models. May be due to DYKR1A inhibition, CDK5 inhibition or AChEi.

How did it effect mood? (More joyful? Energy levels?)
- There is evidence that it helps with depression (Possibly through MAO-A inhibition and or modulation of cerebral inflammation/neurotrophins)

How did it effect anxiety? (Social anxiety? General anxiety?)
- Studies exist which show reduced anxiety in rodents, may be mediated through enhanced GABAergic signaling in the amygdala, dampening it's activity and fear response, as well as reductions in inflammatory cytokines.

Thank you, looking forward to some replies!

I have been using harmine hcl for about two months straight. I was doing full spectrum harmala before for about 6 months last year. I take 50-100 mg and I take it throughout the day. I am using it to wean myself of psych meds, which worked before. I got off antipsychotics for 6 months, then the mania and psychosis came back when I stopped the harmalas. I'm hoping I can stick with the harmalas and get off the meds again.

Now I'm mixing the full spectrum and harmine throughout the day, with pure harmine alone for workouts. I find the full spectrum works better for an increased and deeper sense of wellbeing but it is slightly sedating.

It works like a mood stabilizer for me and lifts my mood throughout the day. I was able to get off seroquel the sleeping med within two weeks of starting with the harmine. It has a positive effect on my anxiety and it helped me with keeping my stress low for a recent period of unemployment. I don't know the science behind it but it seems to be good for my psyche and I know there is an anti cancer impact so I plan to take it pretty much every day for the rest of my life. I have a family history of dementia so I am hopeful it will help for that too.

My writing is notably improved when I am on it. But I assume the increased creativity is from microdosing a psychedelic in general. I felt a calling to work with this medicine and I hope to be the person who takes the most quantity of it in my lifetime. But I don't know how realistic it is. @dreamer042 and I take 10mg full spectrum/harmine along with our melatonin at night and it synergizes quite nicely, I do recommend. He's has been taking harmalas to sleep for about 15 years.

There is a research dump from several years back with quite a few harmala articles of interest here, if you'd like to check it out, and a few others scattered throughout that thread. (The file order got messed up in the transition to the new forum, if you have access, you can also find it on the old forum with the order in tact).

Also, don't forget we have a shiny new dedicated subforum for sharing harmala research.

All of your questions are dose dependent.

I have used rue daily for about two years in the past and am back on a regular regimen.

How did it effect stimulants? (Caffeine?, nicotine? and amphetamine?)
High dose: Jitters and other effects of caffeine are more noticeable and intense. High dose harmalas already elicits excitation and so this just ramps that up.
Low dose: A nice synergy, provided the caffeine level isn't too high.

How did it effect cognitive function? (Memory? Working Memory?)
High dose: It's hard to say here.
Low dose: I am much more cognitively fluid when harmalas are in my system, even when I'm tired. Working memory is quick and use of information is fluid.

How did it effect mood? (More joyful? Energy levels?)
I have depression. It helps a whole lot with that. Even in times of heavy episodes, I am still able to function and not allow things to bring me down from that.

How did it effect anxiety? (Social anxiety? General anxiety?)
High dose: When the dose is too high, that's almost all you feel until you level out in the experience.
Low dose: Calms anxiety and stress.

One love
