Thick Light Reducing Help

I'm familiar with the Max Ion Tek and have a few successful batches under my belt, but to save time and effort I've been looking into Thick Light's Tek. Everything in it make sense to me except the first couple steps:

Step2
Boil ACRB in 2000ml of water with 100ml white vinegar for 1.5 hrs, then transfer liquid to another pot and start reducing it.

Step3
Repeat Step2 at least 4 times, adding 100ml fresh vinegar each time.

Step4
Reduce total liquid volume to around 1500ml, then let cool and pour into your extraction vessel. (A half gallon mason jar works well).


It is mainly the reducing part that I have a tough time visualizing. I assume 'reduce' means 'boil down' but the time boiling throws me. Boiling 2L of water for 1.5 hours... well there will be nothing left but bark. 'Then tansfer liquid to another pot and start reducing it?' How and to what volume is my only question. Once I figure this out I don't think I'll have any other questions. So to those of you that have done this or know what is meant by the instructions, help would be much appreciated.

How does a traditional a/b with long hours of acid boils & reducing save time & effort compared to a short, heated acid soak & then immediate basification?

& as for reducing, it is done at a very low heat. There should be steam but no bubbles. Ime 2 hours will barely reduce 100ml from the 1500ml solution with the correct temperature.
Your not boiling, your simmering.

Thanks. Simmering makes a huge difference. So to rewrite the instructions, I would put 2L of water, 100ml of vinegar, and 500g of bark in a pot. Simmer it for 6 hours, but every 1.5 hours add another 100ml of vinegar and then reduce it to 1.5L at the end. Does that look/sound right?

NO.

1.You put 2L of water, 100ml of vinegar, and 500g of bark in a pot. You simmer it for 1.5
hour.

2.You then pour all the liquid into another pot and turn the heat on medium to reduce.

You do steps 1-2 (4) times, its simple. Dont simmer for 6 hours, and every 1.5 hours
add another 100ml of vinegar and then reduce it to 1.5L in the end, no.

After simmer bark for 1.5 hours, you transfer the liquid to another pan, then boil again
in first pan for 1.5 with new water and vinegar, then transfer liquid again, then boil again in first pan for 1.5 with new water and vinegar,
then transfer again, etc.

This process takes 2 Pans, so at the end of doing steps 1-2 (4) times, you will have a
pan reducing.

You do realize you can scale up cybs tek following the same ratio & do 2 250g extractions side by side in a matter of hours?

Itll take you longer to do the first couple acid boils with a traditional a/b.

But if you insist on taking the long road i wont argue.

Concombres, it's been a while since i looked at cyb's tek, so i forgot you could do that. But just for clarification, if you do up the doses of bark to 250g, you DO NOT proportionalize the lye and vinegar to accomodate with the increased dose of bark. You still only use 50ml of vinegar and 40g of lye?

I'm obviously new here and am definitely no chemist. That's why I'm asking all these questions so that I get the process right because I don't know how to calculate and quantify all of the reactions taking place.

Now to be objective, cyb's tek mentions heating the acid solution for 8 hours. Thick light's is 6. For the sake of that figure and the amount of pulls I would be doing in each tek, I'm inclined to do thick light's tek.
That is, unless you know details I don't know about cyb's tek or thick light's which would advise me to go with cyb's tek instead.

I'm just explaining that cybs tek works very well when followed correctly & takes very little time.

I've never yeilded under 2% with it & it takes very little time.

I do use the traditional a/b method for caapi still & it does take some time & effort.

I'd suggest you try both. Maybe do cybs tek on 50g & use the rest for thicklights tek & see which you like better.

I only reccommend cybs because a big a/b can get quite messy & out of hand quickly & theres alot more steps than cybs.
You may want to do a few practice runs on something a little less valuabe than your dmt containing bark to get your methods down & running smoothly before you just go for 500g.
Once you get the hang of a/b its simpler than it seems.

I'd also advise you find some fumaric acid online. Its very cheap & it doesnt stink up your house like boiling vinegar. You just have to grab some ph strips too so you can test your ph so you know it's right. The measurements are not the same as vinegar because it is powder & i believe a stronger acid as well. Or at least more concentrated than 5%
