Tips on pulling max crystals

Just has 5 pulls from my mix and believe I can get more .
Any tips for pulling more?>
I have added 50g salt and an extra 20g lye and have put the jar in warm water and still am getting more crystals although they are getting fewer.
Wondering if I left the naptha in the mix and swirled it for a day then left it and did a pull the following morning...I plan to milk the 50g bark completely out :|

What you have done is good (salt and lye)...you may exhaust the bark around the 2% mark.
Some have left the solvent in for a week or more and pulled extra...but is will be quite yellow. (Yellow is a positive thing in my book)

An aromatic pull with a full evap should yank some Jungle (mhrb)

An Aromatic solvent (such as Limonene/Toluene/Xylene)
These won't freeze precipitate...so just evap to air (cold fan) and you're left with the goods.

Could I use the panel wipe/degreaser I have been using for the pulls as an aromatic solvent .It will vape of over time I expect.There is no label on the bottle as it has peeled off to let me know what exactly is in it

Panel Wipe is "Naphtha" and is an Aliphatic Hydrocarbon...A non polar solvent, perfect for normal pulls and freeze preciptation.
It is not, however, an Aromatic. An Aromatic Hydrocarbon Solvent is less selective and will pull more 'Mystery Alkaloids'
Limonene is a good bet as it is distilled from citrus fruit and is easier to find (smells good too):thumb_up:

Can one smoke the brown gunk,I assume its bark residue that's stuck to the bottom of the dish after the crystals have been removed.I have been collecting this just in case.I would assume its ok to smoke just wondering about the hit?

I don't suggest smoking the brown gunk..

There shouldn't be any "brown gunk" or anything else left after collecting your crystals... The brown gunk likely contains lye and miniscule amount of DMT, if any. Do not smoke the brown gunk. If you have bark residue, or anything else for that matter, left in your dish after freeze-precipitating and removing the crystals, you should really consider recrystallizing. If any amount of the lower solution got mixed in with your solvent pulls, then your product is most likely contaminated with lye (something you really don't want to be smoking).

In the future, I would recommend a sodium carbonate wash before freeze-precipitation, to remove any traces of lye/water/bark.

Cyb, I thought I remembered reading somewhere that VM&P naphtha contained some percentage of aromatic hydrocarbons? Maybe I am thinking of something else.

'Naphtha' {say Naftha} is a generic (US) term for 'a distillation product from petroleum boiling in the approximate range 100-200°C and containing aliphatic hydrocarbons'

VM&P is a brand name...(really not sure of the detailed ingredients...we don't have it here)
Panel Wipe (and other similar products) contain very pure Naphtha leaving no trace after evap (this is why it is used in the {dust} cleaning of car bodies prior to spraying)

Ok its just been binned..i though I read somewhere that it was ok to smoke although not great quality.i will try another few pulls from the jar next week to see whats what.I am still getting pure white crystals from the pulls although not a lot..the residue is sticking to the bottom of the dish leaving the crystals sitting on top and after a day drying they are easily removed without any gunk as its hardened .

There might have been DMT in there. I never throw anything away until I am 99.9% certain that there is nothing to be salvaged from it. A picture would be really helpful here... "Brown gunk" isn't very descriptive, so nobody can tell you for sure what it is and if it is garbage or not. It may very well have been a combination of lye and bark particles, it may have been full of DMT to be recrystallized.

Good call. It can be found in most grocery stores in the laundry detergent aisle, I use Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda.

Someone I know (some call him SWIM) uses a hot (100 deg.C) water-bath where the jars with the basified bark soup and naphtha is made hot. Mixing it thoroughly a few times over one hour, and letting the solvents separate, gives much higher yields than doing this at room temperature. Also the separation of the solvents is much faster.

I pull my DMT with the help of a water bad (because more DMT dissolves in hot naphtha than in colder) and the result is also a more or less brown goo.

As a reply to my welcome essay, it was suggested that the brown colour should not be the result of DMT n-oxide (which is not supposed to form that fast).

I checked this by resolving it in vinegar and mixed with zinc dust. Within minutes, the colour became less orange and more yellow. After about two hours, the solvent was almost colourless.

This means: there was a lot of n-oxide. It also seems that this n-oxide dissolves especially in hot naphtha (is there anybody who can state this?).

In other words: you can pull more DMT with hot naphtha, and there is a lot of n-oxide in it. Hence the brown colour.

Insoluble in petroleum (naphtha) but appreciably soluble in petroleum which contains fats. Ghosal & Banerjee 1969

From my understanding, DMT n-oxide should not be soluble in naphtha, regardless of temperature.
