Toluene questions.

After reading here that some people pulling almost as much spice from their depleted mimosa as they initially pulled with naphta i´m getting interested in trying a toluene pull on my soon depleted lye/mimosa mix.

But the ony thing ive found in stores so far is a mix with Toluene, acetone and isobutanol.

It´s the only solvent in the store that is in a metal can and it says it´s very dangerous to inhale for prolonged periods:roll:


A few questions.

1. can i use this?

2. Does it take long time to evap, do i need to evap it or can i do a ATB On the Toluene to get the goodies out?

3. What´s the best Toluene tek?

Try to find how much toluene, acetone and isobutanol this solvent has first. If the majority is toluene, then acetone can be washed away by washing the solvent with water and always keeping the solvent (top) layer 2-3 times. Isobutanol does not mix with water very well and floats on top, but it should not pose great problems if some of it is left in the solvent.

With toluene and or xylene the best teks are the ones that back-salt the freebases in the solvent after the pull, such as FASA, FASI and FASW, also vinegar wash and then evaporation will also work fine. Converting back to salt is almost mandatory when working with toluene, xylene and limonene becasue they cannot be freeze-precipitated and it takes ages for them to evaporate. By ages I mean AGES!

Ok thanks, i once tried evaping white spirit so i won´t go down that road again, that time i did an ATB on the white spirit which worked great.

Wen´t back to the vendor today to buy it but somehow they had sold about 6bootles since last time and it was all out.

Seems that you need some kind of permit to buy pure toulene in my country and the shopkeepers got suspicoius when i started asking about it, guess people do weird stuff with it.

Anyhow i did find xylene mixed aliphatic naphtha, would this work?
