UK filter to "block esoteric content"

[acacian]

very disturbing that this is being pushed for.. if this went through it would potentially mean no more nexus in the UK. no more internet freedom..

wow...

..why?

what does censoring esotericism accomplish?

[jamie]

"..why?"

Sadly, I feel like I don't even need to answer that question. It is things like this that make me think demons are real.

[Inner Paths]

I just signed the petition. The liberal party that just got elected in Australia tried to implement internet filtering which was shouted down but who's to say they won't try again. It's turning into an increasingly disturbing, freedom crushing world out there

[Chadaev]

Inner Paths: 'It's turning into an increasingly disturbing, freedom crushing world out there.' Yes, very disturbing to watch the power of unconsciousness spreading like a tentacled fog. Even trickier in Australia where the official religion is sunshine and people can imagine it's not happening. We must redouble our efforts to stay awake!

[Inner Paths]

Indeed Chadaev!

Isn't it so right now, that people of a certain age are able to "subscribe" for porn in the UK? To deactivate the filter? Wouldn't this work for the other content too?

[DreaMTripper]

Yeah it will be on by default but it can be turned off by request..not a good direction to head in..

[Ufostrahlen]

It's the foot in your door to program you in their ways.

If the UK filters forums, Esoteric websites AND pornography(!!!) then what the hell is the point in any website ever?

Signed!

Well, you know....buying things

I honestly don't think this will fly. I mean porn was already half illegal or completly illegal in most countries. But esoteric content? Is there any basis for such a censorship?

"Esoteric" content is, at least where I am, often spreading false facts, false conspiracy theories and general BS. Also it's often closely related or comes directly with right wing propaganda.

Or it could be a website which recommends healthy food, healthy drugs (you know which ones), and a healthy mind/body, by telling the reader the truth about pharma industry, the food industry, capitalism, globalisation, and how all of it is connected.

This is BAD AND DANGEROUS esoteric.
You might come to the conclusion that you don't need the mainstream western way of life, or even worse you might realize that this way actually is pathologic and makes you suffer more.

For hardcore christians, meditation is A TOOL OF THE DEVIL, it is sooooo bad (for them actually) that they really get nervous and worked up.
Imagine their apprehension to shamanism.

It is crystal clear to me. Just another way of controling the (mindless) masses through propaganda.

For me nothing of the above is esoteric.

And for the filter...I'm not really sure how I feel about this. On one hand I like the fact that my imaginary 12 year old son wouldn't have access to i.e. porn or other stuff which isn't really for children. As long as I'm free to decide to deactivate it I don't really see a problem there. That doesn't mean that I want a filter, but I can also undestand the point of people how do so.

It is crystal clear to me that companies who make this filter-software just wanna sell it. That they have sitting lobbyists in the right corners. And I don't think that there's a conspiracy going on against "the mindless masses" but that theres just one simple goal which they want to reach and that's the same as always...making money.

[Ryusaki]

No it isn't esoteric per se, but it could be seen as such. Its not about the content itself its about a mechanism to filter out undesired topics. Whatever they may be.
And of course its all about money or power. Big pharma is neither interested in your health nor your healing, only in what amount of money they can take from you. Like the food industry and the millitary industrial complex. They don't want to poison you or kill you, they just want to make money, but they approve of every possibility to make a profit, even if it means your death.

If the big industries work together with the media and the politics to ensure that they get their money no matter the consequences you can call it a conspiracy, or if you accept the definition from Hermann Göring you can call it FASCISM.

PS: Your imaginary 12 year old son should'nt surf the internet in the first place. Its NOT a place for minors. If more people would get this in their skull, we wouldn't need those companies.

I agree on everything but the PS paragraph.

That may be your definition of what esoteric means, but i never understood it that way. To me esoteric meant veiled in secrecy, mysterious somewhat, associated with witchcraft or ancient magic practices, that is just what comes to mind for me for example.

The official definition i found for esoteric is repeatedly this: Esoteric information is information understood by a small group, and usually misunderstood by a larger group.

Btw, this law is insanity! I seriously question the intention of this, it appears an all out frontal to brainwash people on many fronts.

[Ryusaki]

You don't have to, but instead of a blacklist, why not use only a whitelist. I think this is the best solution for little kids. (meaning they can only visit webpages you allow them too)

But on the other hand don't delude yourself: a 12 year old can get easely access to porn, the only thing he needs is a smartphone, or internet, or a friend with a smartphone or internet.
If he wants to see porn, he will.
I saw porn when i was 12 (and this was BEFORE the internet) and i didn't even wanted to.

@BecometheOther
The Nazis did esoteric, ergo esoteric is nazi stuff!
Really, some people are that dense.
But some esotheric concepts are (borderline) racist or imply that certain groups of people are better than others, so it doesn't come from nothing.
And esoteric has a bad image because of the amount of false prophets, charlatans and insane people sticking to it. Think about all these mindcontrolling sects who use it as a means of control.

[acacian]

^^ .. yeah its funny to me that they chose to use the term esoteric to cover areas like pornography and other explicit material. personally I'm not sure I should be quick to judge the intentions of the people doing it - they may be people genuinely worried about what children are exposed to (but censorship totally seems like the wrong way to go about it- i think honest education would go a long way on the matter.. and who knows who their being pushed by) - either way if that is indeed the case it sounds like they haven't grasped the full extent of the bills potential consequences.. I think it is equally likely that they are indeed just using areas like pornography as a smoke screen to achieve an all out internet censorship

to me esoteric covers mystical/spiritual knowledge and I am pretty sure to a great majority of people it is associated with those things... I think if this bill genuinely per sued anything "esoteric" then we would have a dire situation on our hands. today the internet is perhaps mankind's most vital tool for transparency... there definitely seems to be powers at work doing everything in their might to suppress transparency. It may sound "conspiracy theorist" (against nexus policies I know) but at some level I do believe there are very powerful people aware of the significance of many of the esoteric or spiritual dimensions of life who believe it not in their own best interest for the rest of mankind to possess knowledge in that area.. definitely some twisted people out there "conspiring"
