Underlying "Thought" Processes?

Has anyone observed the underlying "thought" process that goes on? It's not so much thought in the traditional sense like the typical self-narration that we do in waking conciseness, but something that underlies it like... intentionality or something that works without words. When you get to that point where thought narration becomes disjointed gibberish there's still something perfectly coherent going on and you have a deeper kind of understanding. Something like an impression or a feeling becomes apparent. This is somewhere between the point where you still have some ability to string together normal thought sentences and where thought narration completely disappears.

Not too sure about it cos of how you expressed it...or maybe its just me.

I can say that in esoteric thinking it is considered a beautiful and worthwhile challenge to get right back to the fountain of your thoughts...right back to the place where your thoughts spring from. If we can do that...then we may get that : "deeper kind of understanding". I'd say its a difficult pursuit. But having read, re-read and thrice read your post...well, to me, it sounds like you have taken the first footsteps in yonder direction.

Safe journey! Please report back. Not many do!

Probably not the best way of describing it, however it seems to me that when you let go of your thoughts and let them flow into whatever gibberish they may produce there's a process going on (behind the scenes so to speak) that doesn't use words, it's more of a knowingness, if that makes sense. I have encountered this in meditation mostly. The wellspring of thought is a good way to put it.

Just continue watching this thought process, create more distance between the witnessing consciousness (that which sees the thought process) and the thought process itself... the more you watch it, the less it is.... eventually when total energy is watching, and totally meditative, there's no energy left for the thought process.... and, well... welcome home :)

I usually come to a point where i observe my thoughts and the observer is totally disconnected from the emotional content of the thoughts.

It goes like this:
Ego: OMG i am going mad.
Me (observer): Yeah now comes the fun part.
Ego: OMG its too intense, ITS TOO MUCH. You took too much AGAIN.
Me: Its just the beginning.
Ego: Help me i am gonna die (crying)
Me: Look how the little monkey is panicking.(laughing out loud)
Ego: NO NO NO, i don't wanna die (repeat ad adsurdum)
Me: Now he lost it.(grinning from ear to ear)
Ego breaks down, dies, withers away.
Me: Finally, there is silence...

Actually It goes like this:
Ego part 1: OMG i am going mad.
Ego part 2 : Yeah now comes the fun part.
Ego part 1: OMG its too intense, ITS TOO MUCH. You took too much AGAIN.
Ego part 2: Its just the beginning.
Ego part 1: Help me i am gonna die (crying)
Ego part 2: Look how the little monkey is panicking.(laughing out loud)

Or maybe I'm seeing it wrong, but the Observer is that which watches, it does not participate, it just sees that which is. It seems like you're getting identified with one aspect, and that aspect (which you call Me) takes the "against" attitude towards the Ego, but that's just another part of mind fighting against the first part.... still within the Ego.

If you watch both sides without taking any side, you are the observer. When you watch, and through watching one side fights the other and they annihilate each other because they are of equal strength, silence should arise of it's own accord if you continue to watch the whole thing

Silence does not claim "Finally, there is silenece..."; Silence just is, when thought process is not. Otherwise ego will claim silence, and then comes in through the back door again. You can't stop, or drop, thought process. You can just witness it, watch it, it stops when watching is total and unattached as far as I understand it

...unless I'm missing something or misinterpreted you, in which case carry on :p

I believe you're observing the conflict between the Freudian ego and the super-ego.

ego is ego is ego.... is it not? If you could explain the two concepts in clarity so I can understand what you mean, I would greatly appreciate it

why not meditate ?

why not ignore mental chatter ?

i mean always , not only in hyperspace

AnavriN, I'm very familiar with this. I think what you are describing is the conscious division between left and right hemisphere "thought" processes.

But I don't mean to come off as saying that its "just" the brain, or to make any reductionist assumptions about consciousness.
