Vapor Genie: thumbs up or thumbs down

Migrated topic.
Why not just use the flame filter on a bong bowl that has a thread. Load a bit of ice and water to really cool the vapour down. And away you go.

If your really having trouble with hot vapour and not getting being able to get a full breakthrough hit, I have a 99% guaranteed method that I use sometimes or for on people who've never smoked.

I use my Roor littla sista filled with Ice & an ashcatcher (also filled with cold water) & then use the carbon filter too with the active charcoal.

It may seem a little overkill, but you can hardly feel that you’re breathing in anything at all & very rarely remember breathing out with this method, it just simply seems to dissolve in you & then you dissolve too :d

Also as the carbon filter adapter can make the bong a little too cumbersome you can just place a little wire wool down the down stem and then pour some active charcoal down the tube and this works just as well.

I've never noticed a drop in potenency with this method and 45mg+ always seems to do the job & can easily be taken in one hit.

PS: just ordered a glass VG after hearing good things & looking forward to giving it a go, love the portability of it... can't wait for it to arrive :p

on a side note, its funny how with the genie one can distinguish the different vapours.. For example yesterday I smoked some changa made with mint and passiflora leaves, a bit of harmine and dmt.. When one starts inhaling, the first thing that comes is for sure mint, it 'cools down' the throat sort of like when one brushes the teeth or something, it also feels to be bronchodilator but I have no idea if it is or if it just feels like (anyways, its great).. Then begins the taste of dmt, and about a similar time comes some of the 'essence' of the passiflora and the last bits of the mint.. This is the bulk of the whole thing, and at this stage one needs to take the propper puffs and hold in the lungs for the effects. The dmt taste is easy to distinguish for anyone experienced with this (and sometimes at this point it may form a bit of a mucus-like substance in the mouth and back of the throat, no prob spit or swallow hehe), together with this extra something of the leaves. Only from the middle to the end one can taste the harmine, which smells a bit more 'woody' (I dont know how to describe better, I know its harmine because its similar taste that comes when one smokes caapi vine)

does anyone also get this kind of 'timeline of tastes' with changa in the genie?

Does anyone have any tips for reducing the temperature of the vapors produced by the VG? This is my biggest problem with it, it can get really hot.

Has anybody tried putting their VG in the freezer before using it? I thought about it but was afraid that cooling and then suddenly heating could damage the glass.

lol no man read what I said, regulate temperature by the speed of inhaling and proximity of flame.. if you want cooler, just take the flame away ;)

the ideal is to find some constant average where its hot but not too hot so you can still take in

@LucidLemonade

EXCELLENT Information you've got there, thanks! I guess noone really tried using an ice bong before, because everyone assumed, that the spice would recrystallize within seconds!

@endlessness
But without heating it to unbearable temperatures, it doesn't vaporize enough to get the required amount in.

On the handfull of occassions that I've used ice and introduced non-smokers to spice using the leaf method with MJ, they've always had a breakthough with <50mg.

Normally though, ice is not required the two cooling chambers with water and the active carbon is more than enough, it seems to me thats it's the active carbon that makes the biggest difference in allowing non-smokers to take a large (MJ/spice/MJ) bong without any issues.

True... My advice only really stands if using spice with MJ, I forget that not everyone does :?

But if you do it's def worth giving the active carbon thing a go as it does make a huge differrence to the smoothness of the smoke and so enables you to take massive hits :p

For a pure spice vap with a bong a modified a downtube with 2 volcano liquid pads and then a joint adapter on top (so the flame only dips into the stem) works very well

Obliguhl.. maybe you just have unusually sensitive lungs or cough reflexes related to dmt vapour. Gotta listen to your body..

Not that you shouldnt try ways to make it better, of course, but it could just be that vaporized dmt is not the best way for you (just like it isnt for a lot of ppl)

I really think that the key to the genie is to find the spot while you can still pull in without coughing, but that it is warm enough to be a dense vapour. But I can only say what works for me.. wish you the best in finding a way that is good for you :)

I find with some vapors, you need to have a place to let them cool a little while before you inhale. I find this especially with bufotenine, but sometimes DMT can be a little too hot for a short while. That's why I stay clear of pipes, which as refined and highly spoken of, is just what the VG is.

When the funds are available, I'm going to buy an inline pre-cooler to fit my glass VG.

To create this:

The bowl of the glass VG is a standard 18.8mm female joint. The cap, a standard 18.8mm male joint.

So I'm on the look out for a nice inline pre-cooler. A quality one that will stand up over time.

And I've been searching for a bowl that will accept the VG ceramic cap. There's a cylinder bowl by EHLE that I think might work. Still looking around though. It may require a custom job.

Well, as the OP my verdict on the VG is that it works surprisingly well as a vaporizer (never thought it was possible to vaporize w/o an electric heating plate) for MJ and, in my limited experience, for DMT. However, vaporizing things correctly requires good technique, and if you're not careful you can either make the vapors painfully hot or simply ignite the herbs and just produce smoke. It would be great if there was some sort of cooling attachment, I'm thinking of connecting a tube to the mouthpiece that runs the vapors through a bottle that contains ice cubes or cold water...

The price is also a little steep. You could probably get a decent bubbler or bong with a flame filter for the same price or maybe less. If you've got the cash to spend though, you can't go wrong with the VG. Overall I'd give it an 8.8/10.0

I definately need to design my own stuff to smoke bufo. I always thought I had strong lungs... turns out not so :)

bufo is VERY harsh compared to dmt....i dont recommend a VG for the job....i dont think it would even vaporize the bufo
