Hello,
I have a question about a the vovin tek.It says that washing with sodium carbonate dont give bad emultion after strong agitation, what is the diference befor??Because there is some bark in the soultion maybe??
Is it better to defat befor basyfing or I can pull and defat again with acid water and basyfi again and pull?If second option, can the amount of liquids be reduced I mean:if I have total of 1 l solvent pulled out (4 times) from 1l acid water, can I defat wiyh smaller quantity acid water or again need to do 4x250.Does it worth he wast of solvent or I just can stick to first method?

Are you trying to ask what the sodium carbonate wash is supposed to remove? If so, then the answer is lye that got pulled with the naphtha. If I understand it correctly, the lye is polar, as is the sodium carbonate solution. So, the lye will tend to migrate from the nonpolar naphtha to the sodium carbonate solution. One then simply separates the naphtha from the sodium carbonate/lye solution and is left with lye-free DMT and naphtha. This is entirely unaffected by whether or not an emulsion forms.

I cannot really answer this question. I think that which is better is a matter of opinion. It may help you, however, to know that acidifying, defatting, basifying, and pulling after having already pulled with nonpolar solvent from the basic solution is commonly known as a mini-A/B. It is often used by people doing STB extractions, since they do not have the first defat opportunity that comes with an A/B extraction. I hope that helps your search.

I am not certain, but I think you can reduce the volumes. Once you have gone through the extraction (i.e., acid, defat, base, pull), you should be left with a small quantity of plant fats and your DMT. While the pH should probably be what it was before, you should not need the same volume of acid since the amount of material you are working with should be much smaller. That being said, I am not too familiar with mini-A/Bs, so hopefully someone with more knowledge and some actual experience can chime in.

Why are you pulling with 250 mL of nonpolar solvent per pull? Unless you are doing a large extraction or using a bad solvent, this is excessive. 50 or 100 mL wil suffice.

A last point to make here is that the abbreviation for litres is a capital L, not lowercase. I normally try to refrain from nitpicking at such things, though they irritate me greatly, but, when combined with the grammar from the rest of your post and the fact that lowercase l's look like capitals i's with my font, I thought that:

meant that you had pulled "1" of a solvent. For the sake of clarity, please use the correct abbreviation.

This is, again, personal preference. For one thing, it depends on how fatty your final product is. If you have white fluffy crystals, it probably is not worth it. If you have orange goo and want crystals, it might be. If you have orange goo and do not mind orange goo, since many people like it, then no, it is not worth it.
