i hydrated my root bark by pouring boiling vinegar/water into it, and covering. There was very little water at the bottom of the bowl. I then mixed a 3/4 ratio of gardening lime (whoops) and rootbark. Then i added a 3/4 ratio pickling lime/ rootbark. I was thinking about washing as much base out of the bark as possible, and doing a naptha pull on the basic solution, then simmering the root bark in a ph 4 solution for hours. Basify the new solution and go for more pulls. I'm not positive whether the current basic solution is just not strong enough, or if the spice is still mostly all a salt that is unable to be pulled because its stuck in the bark. I plan to freeze and thaw the bark before simmering in the acid.
