Drug Purity Report #33/26

Welcome to “last week on drugs”, a PRO Test series dedicated to reporting on drug-market purity. This week: doppelgänger Ecstasy pills, pills containing more than one stimulant, and continued diversity among cathinone samples.

Caution: warnings are not limited to compounds mentioned in this post. All published laboratory results are warnings. No psychoactive substance is 100% safe.

Data fatigue is real, so here is the gist of what is worth knowing.


Red TikTok pill tested in Austria. Pills with the same appearance were found to contain either MDMA or caffeine.

Doppelgänger Ecstasy pills

Every pill should be treated as different. The latest red TikTok and blue Punisher pills found in Austria illustrate why: half of the tested samples contained MDMA, while the other half contained caffeine.

A weak effect from a caffeine pill may encourage someone to take more and overestimate their tolerance, increasing the possible risk of an accidental overdose if another pill contains MDMA.

Multi-stimulant pills

Pills containing both MDMA and caffeine were found in Austria, including another type of blue Punisher tablet.

MDMA with amphetamine was detected in a round orange pill in Innsbruck. In Slovenia, a Donkey Kong pill contained NEP mixed with an unknown compound, following recent detections in other countries across the region.

Cathinone diversity

As reported in previous weeks, 4-MMC is becoming increasingly rare while numerous substitutes remain in circulation.

Samples contained 3-CMC, 4-CMC, 2-MMC, 3-MMC, 4-BMC and NEP. Ethylpentedron was also detected this week.

Last Week at a Glance

• 217 samples from 6 countries — Austria, France, Germany, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland — were included.
• 172 samples contained a quantified result, including 73 pills and 6 LSD samples.
• 89 samples contained more than one detected ingredient.
• Median LSD content was 172 µg, compared with 69 µg in the yearly reference period.

I recommend to check the app (I use the web version to avoid installing anything). It has a very helpful tool to help interpret TLC tests. You can upload a picture, mark the spot height and size of your known substance if any (e.g. caffeine), and spot height and size of the other tracks. It will let you know if the spot height and size fits with what you expect the other tracks to be, or not. And how much their height differs from what would be expected. It also tells you other likely candidates, if any. Highly recommended.

Do you have any information how samples enter testing?

What I mean is that if sample/pill/capsule effects are somehow suspicious, users probably tend to send it to such testing more likely and it will skew the results in favour of negatives.

Drug Purity Report #34/26

In this week’s report on drug-market purity we are shining a spotlight on fake hash, extremely strong MDMA pills and further PMMA warnings.

Caution: warnings are not limited to substances mentioned in this post. All published laboratory results are warnings. No psychoactive substance is 100% safe.

Data fatigue is real, so here is the gist of what is worth knowing.



A sample sold as hash in Zurich contained two different synthetic cannabinoids: MDMB-4en-PINACA and ADB-4en-PINACA.

Fake hash with synthetic cannabinoids

A sample found in Zurich contained MDMB-4en-PINACA and ADB-4en-PINACA. With CBD readily available, the financial incentive to sell material containing synthetic cannabinoids instead of classic THC products can be considerable.

Extremely strong MDMA pills

Pills approaching 300 mg of MDMA were detected in Tarragona, Spain, and Basel, Switzerland. A grey Grim Reaper stamped “350mg” contained 283 mg MDMA, while an orange Master Roshi contained 260 mg.

Renewed PMMA warning

Although PMMA was not detected in the samples included in this particular week, further recent detections mean the warning remains important. PMMA has been found in multiple samples this year. It produces hardly any of the expected effects of MDMA while carrying many unwanted effects.

• 57 samples from 5 countries — Austria, France, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland — were included.
• 48 samples contained a quantified result, including 10 pills and 3 LSD samples.
• 13 samples contained more than one detected ingredient.
• Median LSD content was 230 µg, compared with 70 µg in the yearly reference period.

In this week’s report on drug-market purity we are highlighting PMMA warnings from the Netherlands, newly emerging benzodiazepines and impurities found in amphetamine samples.

A green Donald Trump ecstasy pill reported in the Netherlands contained PMMA instead of MDMA.

Donald Trump ecstasy pills containing PMMA

Several ecstasy pills pressed with Donald Trump’s face have recently been found to contain PMMA instead of MDMA. On 28 August, the Trimbos Institute issued a national Red Alert in the Netherlands. Three such pills appear in this week’s data: blue and yellow, green and pink, and red.

PMMA is particularly dangerous because its desired effects are limited while its unwanted stimulant effects can be severe. At least sixteen samples have been found to contain PMMA so far in 2026.

New benzodiazepines

Three of the ten psychoactive substances most frequently searched for this week were benzodiazepines that attracted little attention a year ago: ethylbromazolam, bromonordiazepam and flubrotizolam. An Austrian sample sold as alprazolam was identified as flualprazolam. Sedatives sold under a familiar name are often not what their label suggests.

Amphetamine impurities

Typical amphetamine purity was 68% this week, compared with 61% over the preceding twelve months, although quality varies greatly by region. DPIA was detected in one sample and 1-PEA in three. DPIA is a by-product of the Leuckart synthesis route, while 1-PEA is chemically related to amphetamine but has little, if any, effect.

One Swiss sample sold as 4-MMC contained 70% caffeine, 14% amphetamine and 13.4% 1-PEA.

Last Week at a Glance

• 114 samples from 7 countries — Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland — were included.
• 95 samples contained a quantified result, including 40 pills and 5 LSD samples.
• 38 samples contained more than one detected ingredient.
• Typical MDMA content was 130.5 mg this week, compared with 160 mg over the preceding twelve months.

I wasn't aware that street ketamine is sometimes contaminated with levamisole. That's not good. I'll be on the lookout for it in the future. This gives me yet another reason to be wary of ketamine in general...
