What are the chances that my MHRB has been N-oxidized?

I've had an order of MHRB for at least 6 months, maybe a year I don't remember, I've just been waiting for a place to extract it, and I might find the opportunity soon. But before I do I heard about the risk of N-oxidization over time and if that is my case I'd want to fix that before/during extraction if possible.

My MHRB is powder, sealed in it's original bag wrapped in newspaper. It first spent a few months in my fridge (not freezer, just the fridge) and then spent 4 months underneath a bed, now it's back in my fridge. I haven't touched it otherwise, no steps taken for preparation yet.

So, from this information is it possible to guess how likely it is to have been N-oxidized at this stage? Or do I have to do an extraction first to find out? I've heard about fixing this with zinc powder, would I do that before or after extraction?

Or if it's impossible to know at this stage, can I do the zinc powder step anyway as a precaution, without much loss of N,N-DMT?

^^^that was a message transmitted to me from an alien, he seems to want to know so bad so I thought I'd find the answers here.:)

Check the FAQ out, it might help with this or other questions you have

I would say from the time you said it has been stored and the method, that you will be fine, but you can anyways do the zinc conversion if desired. Oh, here's an even better idea if you are willing to do it:

Do two extractions side-by-side.. One container with the zinc reduction, one without (remember to label everything properly so you know what is what, and try to maintain all other variables the same). Then you compare the yield and see if it makes any difference. This is also an advantage in case for some reason something goes wrong with the zinc step (though nothing should go wrong if its pure chemicals and you do it right), then at least you have another half of the extraction clean.

good luck and post back the results!

Ah thank you. And that's a good idea I should do that just to find out. I'll report if I go through with it, which I think I will, I just have to wait a week or two.

yea please do report back if you end up doing two conversions.

I thought the DMT freebase only had a chance of getting oxidized once extracted. I didn't know my bark in storage could be oxidizing away as well :X

I didn't know the bark was susceptible either, hadn't even thought of that possibility. Wow, great thread, this is good to know.

well its still unknown what exact salt form dmt is in the bark. Some suspect it might be dmt tannate because of tannic acid presence, but so far its just speculation. We dont know how susceptible this salt form is to oxidation, so it could well be that it stays intact for years and years, or it could be some eventually will oxidize. So yeah will be good to know results of tests ;)
