Thanks Atlas. I completely missed this topic last year. And thanks to Anarkid for bringing it back.
I am just a young man still growing hairs on his chest, and I suspect it'll be a ways yet before I figure out how to bring whatever it is I have to fruit as a means of practical living. So far it has been day labor, and currently I am being flown to alaska for fishing season.
As usual I am humbled by the resourcefulness and creativity of all of you. These rare glimpses into lives more developed are a huge inspiration and it is a pleasure to read. There is so much more out there I haven't seen yet.

i'm employed with whole foods market. its an okay job... decent pay, good benefits, good discount on food. can't really say i love my job though, its incredibly boring and not at all emotionally rewarding. one day i'll figure out a career that i really love, but unfortunately having two young children make taking the time and risk a little more difficult.

I used to work as a industrial painter, painting big boats. But quit. I'm about to start school and study Crafts and Design. Here you participate in the entire process from raw material to finished product - from cutting the sheep, spin and dye the yarn to knit your own sweater. What plants in the forest gives the most beautiful colours in your yarn? and so on. Looking forward to it! 
At the moment I work managing 2 educational projects, one related to developing critical thinking, social activism and empowerment amongst young people, the other related to helping immigrants integrate in education. And also collaborate at a drug analysis and harm reduction organization where I can legally do the tests I post here in the nexus 
Entheogenerator, jeeeesus 70 hours a week?! That sounds tough bro, how do you have time for anything else? I´ve worked for 6 months in the food industry last year, doing everything (cooking serving and cleaning) in a turkish restaurant, and it was such a tough job, and this was only like 30 hours a week. Definitely respect people who work in food industry, some of those who never had the experience really have no idea how tough it can be.. I´d probably explode after the first month in your time schedule lol

Really interesting to hear about Nexians different career/life paths, we really do seem to come in many resplendent colours. Lots of creative types which I admire, I come from creative stock (both parents were artists among other things) but this doesn't seem to have passed to me! Definitely seems to be a cross section of highly intelligent people on here.
I've had a number of jobs of the years in various different places; bar work, kitchen work and gardening/landscape design, the latter I definitely enjoyed the most of these, physical work outside in nature definitely resonated with me. Making money, while obviously important, has never been and never will be my prime motivator. A few years back I helped ignite a company, beefayre, with my mum, originally based on sustainable and ethically sourced honeybee products from south west Romania...this has since morphed and snowballed to something else and is doing well but I have little involvement these days as I have my own stuff on my plate.
As of this year I have started an ecology PhD on termites, soils and ecosystem services in dryland environments. I'm a small part of a much larger pilot project looking at ways to alleviate poverty in rural Africa. If successful, this could lead to bigger and better things. I will be conducting research out in south east Ethiopia and head out there on my first research trip next month. So this work compromises a mixture of office work, lab work and fieldwork. I feel really lucky to be here, but do find I am my own worst enemy...I have quite a few interests and a mind prone to wandering which isn't really an ally in a career path that requires a high degree of focus! But for me there is a buzz in finding out new things, and I'm happy to be doing something that is of service to both Man and Nature, not sure what the future will hold though. I do a spot of science communication and outreach on the side when I can and enjoy this so may try and pursue this in the future. I also really like the sound of the TEFL/CELTA English teaching abroad option others have mentioned as I love to travel.

Graphic designer. Haven't done anything in that department for years.
My main job is trying to know myself and this phenomenon we named life. Second job is only there to pay the bills. Other than that i love sports (participating not watching), outdoors camping/bush crafting, relationships etc.

Well I guess since everyone else is being specific I might as well too. Currently, I work for the railroad as a conductor. I have been working in the rail industry for just a couple years now but I love it. I get to spend my time mostly alone with my thoughts and out in nature. In the elements. Snow, rain, sleet, hail, tornado, the railroad doesn't stop and I love it.
Previously I was a a supervisor on an hazardous materials clean up team where I learned most of my intermediate chemistry knowledge. Hard work, long hours (sometimes 80+ hours a week), on call 24/7 and no life outside of work. Terrible experience but it opened the door for me to get on the railroad.
After I quit the hazmat thing, I had to fill in the gap of employment waiting on the railroad to hire me. I did a few odd jobs. Worked in a warehouse driving a fork lift. I worked for an automotive shop. I worked as a bouncer at the Coyote Ugly Saloon and at a nightclub in downtown.
Before all that, I spent some years working at an airplane parts company. We tore airplanes down and resold the used parts. I've done a few things before I finally found the career I want to stick with for a while. It offers me the time and funds to do my research and enjoy life in the meantime.

Yea... It ain't easy that's for sure. I have very little time for anything else. Luckily I live in an area where the economy is tourism-based, so we have an off-season in the spring and fall when all businesses are very slow and hours get cut for almost everyone. I know it will be great to have a little break. I used to work similiar hours and when you work that much, it just consumes your life. Your days off are spent relaxing rather than being active. Just never get to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
I work with two disabled men(quadriplegics). It's a client business. I assist them in the morning as well as the evenings. I very much enjoy it. The friendship development is incredible! As well the experience at whole. Pays well, too. I do have some education into the structures, functions and diversity of anatomy/physiology, as well as some basic medical stuff.
Also, I take dogs out on hikes for extra. Other than that I do what I can to have some income, really. It is not a passion of mine to generate loads of money but I do what makes me happy. That's where passion is. Cash just comes naturally in the right amounts when you're enjoying what you do.
Psychedelics are crucial for learning and navigating. Helping others is beneficial to the soul and you can learn a lot about yourself, others and the universe at large.

Hi All,
I have worked as a property manager for the last 20 years. Some of the time managing and some of the time doing maintenance. Have been spiritual all my life but experiments with entheogens have put this on turbo charge and its actually hard to focus on things since the inner and outer worlds seem to be totally separate.
When i am at work things are very busy but after work if i can get a chance to be alone i can totally relax and let go, sometimes feels like I'm on a trip again, it all sort of comes back.
Sometimes i wonder what i would be like if i had no job, but im sure it holds me together somewhat, just wish i had someone to talk to about entheogens, everyone just seems to misunderstand them and the potential they create.

I'm currently pursuing my B.S.C. in Biochemistry, then off to graduate school to work my way to a PhD, hopefully in neurochemistry :d

I want to research neurotransmitters and horomones' affects on the brain, whether endogenous, natural, or synthetic. Ideally i want to do research on mental illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression and OCD. I don't know much about the field in depth currently, but am confident there are some amazing breakthroughs will be possible and are going to happen to fix them, and i would love nothing more than to be a part of it :roll:

At the moment, I do odd jobs. Primarily aquarium maintenance, but I'm moving away from the service industry and into research, as I get further in school.
I'm studying biochemistry. My main plan is to work with edible and medicinal mushrooms - synthesizing medicines and teaching others how to hunt/grow their own food.
One of my huge interests is Pestalotiopsis microspora. It's a species of mushroom found in the jungle that consumes petroleum based material... yep, plastics.
I really want to get involved in using the blessings of nature to enhance and better our every day world. That is my goal. Be it healing, recycling, or feeding, I want to try to make this place easier for all of us. That's what my first break through told me. By serving others, I'll also be serving myself, and the planet. Big dreams..... hopefully I don't loose focus.

I on the other hand have been stuck in the fast food service industry for 5-6 years now. It is really taking a toll on me. The repetitive nature of the work and the fact I do not support the products I am helping to feed people disgusts me.
I have wanted to quit for many years, unfortunately after applying for over 100 alternative jobs with no success I fear I will be stuck in this cycle.
Being on a minimum wage, I cannot at this time afford to go back to studying. My heart is with working with plants and I'm currently trying to find a horticulture traineeship with work placement. I feel this may be the best option of freeing myself from this horrendous industry I have gotten myself into.
I am still young though, and I'm certain there is a light at the end of this dark greasy tunnel! :?:
