Darwin says that we are all evolving, competing for mates and that the only measure of success is how many viable offspring we produce. that's nice and simple then, as the bible says 'be fruitful and multiply.'
But religious people believe in values such as monogamy; which directly inhibits your ability to produce offspring with a wide and varied selection of genes, such as would be considered good genetic practice; Yet it is extremely common among birds.
- birds, humans, also spend a lot of time and effort contributing to the tending of their offspring, ensuring their survival.
And then there are religious, spiritual, and new-age (also hindu) thinkers who say that we are all one and the same anyway! So why even bother to reproduce?
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?
Everyone knows when they are falling in love, but love makes not even an attempt at thinking about your existing mate. It cares not a jot how confused things will become, what an epic decision it lands on your plate. It just shows up, and it is there, Its is present. It is one of those emotions which can be present strongly for two parties. In different ways, and make not even the slightest attempt to the beholder to explain what right and wrong is, or which would lead to happiness, and which to failure. Is everyone doing this? Wandering around in this sort of perpetual "Who do I love now?" Sort of state? - Let me clarify, she has told me allready that she has feelings for me.
Should we allow our tried and tested, well established relationships to be blown out of the water? No, of course not. but what about when a much better deal comes along? how far can you examine somone, to assess their potential without being rude? To what extent can you determine someones potential, just by being with them and asking questions? and to what extent does the memories you have had, the experiences you have had together with your current partner count for, when the relationship is only functional half of the time?
