When things get too weird

I recently decided to end my four or five year hiatus using freebase DMT, which i initially took after receiving a hyperslap and continued because my time was better spent raising my two young children. Anyway, I've been taking really, really low doses, like meditative doses, which have been beneficial to integrate what occurred years before (seems to flash back in my memory) and sort of dip my toes in the experience again.


So i got to thinking, before really diving back in, that i've read multiple people here say over the years that they smoked DMT repeatedly for extended periods of time until "things got too weird" and i came to realize I don't have many examples of what exactly this means.



Is it that hyperspace became too weird, or waking consensus reality (whatever that may be) became strange? I recall when i first started smoking that I would have strange occurrences during the night upon waking randomly, seeing fields of energy, moving walls, etc. but this for some reason seemed appropriate at the time and not weird at all. I've also had some odd happenings recently, but don't think they are a consequence or result of having smoked again.


What are some of the experiences you all have had which seemed to be too weird?

I think yourinquiry could possibly elicit a range of responses depending on everyone's experiences. We dip into pretty deep waters with DMT. We may not always have the proper integration tools as an individual to understand these experiences, especially in a society that largely rejects experiences of this nature. I've been to some pretty strange and outright terrifying places on DMT, and these experiences have usually been because of smoking at a bad time in my life/setting, or as you say 'things got too weird', because of poking around too much. Sometimes if the message is there, it's there. There is a time to stop and there is a time return.

Psychedelics require work during and outside of the experience to be used sustainably. And as you said, you had kids to be taking care of, and you need to do what's important.

I'd say try it again.. as I've had spooky experiences with DMT and then gone in again later when the vibe in life was different and it was awesome.

It's difficult to understate the "weirdness" of the experiences themselves. Mindful practice and a humble respect for the intense power of the medicines allows one to adopt a more "gentle" approach to their use and integration.

Personally, what continues to be dishearteningly alienating, is that the medicine path is poorly understood by family and friends. Livelihood, maintaining state license,protecting social/professional acceptance, require a degree of privacy/discretion(re medicines) that for me is quite "weird".

This sense of alienation is particularly acute during non-psychedelic social events that should be relaxing, open and enriching BUT seem superficial and distracting. The true magic and mystery of unfolding reality and the ceaseless recreation of what is, moment to moment, is not spoken of(or recognized??). In place of a heartfelt reverence for the miracle of experience, individual and common, there seems to be a strained desire to "enjoy oneself".

None of this is bad, per se, just superficial. If I'll allow, compassion for our collective condition can help me relate to even my entheogenically naive brethren. I just get the strong sense that a more psychedelically informed brotherhood would be, less weird.

Too weird for me in the past usually meant delusional thoughts like being taken over by an alien force. Encounters with negative entities and generally flawed and negative interpretations of the experiences.

Too weird for me was my 1st true blast off. Before I had just dabbled with low doses, around the 5-15 mg range. Then one day I put on a relaxing track from the game Chrono Cross with my giant headphones, loaded my GVG, and took 1 massive rip. I vaporized everything that was in the GVG, it was close to 50 mg.

The next thing I know, I was loosing my balance even though I was just sitting on the carpet floor in my room. The next thing, the music sounded like I was listening to it under water and a flanger effect applied to it along with a weird delay and phasing. The music was almost unrecognizable and it seemed the sound became lower in bit rate. Almost like taking a high quality MP3 of Mozart, slowing it down, appling a heavy filter, adding a delay effect, add some phasing and flanging effects, and finally throw a distortion/lo-fi effect on top to really twist the sound quality.

So anyway, I was taken off guard by the fact that my relaxing music was now really REALLY strange sounding, i took off my headphones (it was difficult, I could barely grab them, I had to just use my arms as levers and just push them off my head)

Next thing ya know, Im looking at the carpet, and each little fiber of carpet looks like an green silk worm that hang from trees except these had little red sharp eyes. It was an OCEAN of silk worms, I even used my hand to swipe the carpet, and I could not for the life of me see carpet, I could only see green and light yellow colored silk worms. All of this was very unsettling. Every time before on DMT, the experience was so nice and relaxing, this was terribly uncomfortable!

It finally wore off after what seemed like forever. I haven't blasted off that hard since. I honestly find more use in the low 10-20 mg range. I enjoy the meditative spiritual aspect of the low dose. I also forgot to close my eyes during the experience because it was so overwhelming. I wish I had, maybe I would have had entity contact or at least seen the Chrysanthemum. Who knows....all I know is, Im staying away from the deep end.

Too weird or too powerful?

The weirdness is always present in hyperspace. I enjoy the utter weirdness. My experience with DMT has been that it is extremely important to integrate every experience before proceeding to the next. As mentioned above making sure you are in a good space and feel completely comfortable and safe helps tremendously.

Taking a break is sometimes the best thing you can do when using any psychedelic. These substances can be self-regulating. Listen to your gut. Life and hyperspace can seem difficult at times but it is all really about how we react to any given experience. Choose to react another way.

All experiences have a sense of weirdness to them. Some greater than others, obviously. I have noticed that lately when I lay down to go to sleep, I have mild CEVs. Not only that but it is the same visual each time. It looks like I'm gazing at a field of interlocking fans/gears that slowly rotate.
Yes, I do smoke MJ before going to bed but I did that long before I ever tried DMT and I never get visuals from high quality bud unless I eat it.

Are these visuals some sort of residual effect of DMT? I haven't the faintest idea but it sure seems like it could be. So besides the actual DMT trips themselves, that is the weirdest thing that has been going on with me.

Many people do not know just how maleable & infinite space/time truly is until they've done a bit (or quite a bit, or a lot) of psychedelics.

For some (or perhaps, quite a few) these new-found revelations can become rather unsettling, disconcerting & quite wierd.

Especially when one comes to find that (what we tend to call) "consensus reality" is nothing but a flimsy, thin veneer over much deeper, thicker, richer, trippy-er levels of infinite realities. Double especially when those other realities begin to bleed over into "sober" life.

These experiences can be intensely disconcerting & disturbing to a mind & soul that aren't at peace with itself.

In my experience, if one is not comfortable with all aspects of one's body, mind & soul & one cannot seriously meditate on the voidness of it all without becoming disturbed, then one should probably stay clear of psychedelic substances in general.

It's a doorway, and you have a choice. You can muster up the stuff to barrel straight through, and then everything changes... Or you can back down, take the blue pill and head straight back to Kansas where you belong. Either way, the drugs only show you the door... it's up to you to make the choice.

It's not as frightening as it first seems, stuck on the brink of the unknown. It's actually beautiful most times; awe-inspiring and wondrous, compelling and exciting.. But it will test you. Any initiation will test you. And it will take everything you have to get through it.

My advice? Don't take the plunge unless you've no other choice... And if you have no other choice, then god speed you.

Yes. DMT gets weirder and weirder as you keep smoking it. I'm sure that old experienced member of the Nexus who are still using the spice can do nothing but agree on this. To me, it seems like Hyperspace has infinite scenarios and possibilities for you. Every time you come back, new stuff is thrown at you. Every time you think you have familiarized yourself with it, conditions change. You realize that place keeps changing, again and again and again. Some people can't or won't keep playing this game and give up for some time or indefinitely. Some always come back looking for more, even cruelest of hyperslaps will only turn them away for short time.


Seems like that rabbit hole is endless after all. Are you ready to keep descending down it?

As the Buddha discusses, the realisation that all is impermanent is what creates peace. I think its learning to not create preferences in what you experience but rather just be with whatever is in that moment. Reality is quite weird, DMT shows us that.

My first weird trip was when I put on hearing protection headphones to experience the silence. There was a woman modelling her clothes for me, in a completely psychedelic fractal world. I just watched, and it never occurred to me to interrupt. But after a while, I did. I said "Hang on. I don't give a shit about clothes or fashion. Why am I seeing this?". She just said "Hmph!" and walked away. Then I was just floating through hyperspace.

What I learned is that human women and hyperspace women are exactly the same.

I may have posted it in the past but I can't recall at the moment. The experience actually completely escaped me for the longest time. A few low dose experiences with aya, reading the experiences of others and trying my best to meditate on it really helped re-integrate what happened.


It may sound cliche but it is really difficult finding words to adequately describe the experience but I will nonetheless attempt to do so. That summer I had been smoking frequently and recklessly as I wasn't measuring my doses. I hadn't taken the time to research proper methods of facilitating the spice, i had just read the archaic revival and breaking open the head and was fascinated by their story weaving. I had plenty of pleasant experiences, had seen wonderful images of Buddha, brilliant architecture, was transported to hilarious cartoon like worlds. There was no semblance to any of that in this experience, though.


I have heard people say 'if you have to ask if you had a breakthrough it probably was not a breakthrough' and I can totally understand. There was no longer a me, I watched myself dissolve into infinite grains of sand in a vast desert. Then I came into this space that was incredibly claustrophobic. I heard a voice chanting, it was the most beautiful etheric voice but also the most chillingly terrifying sound I've ever heard. There was something powerful about it, and whatever I was was responding energetically to its tones. I would vibrate, expand, get smaller etc. Whatever this voice was, I was one with it.


There was another voice speaking to me at the same time, this was very masculine and angry sounding. It was saying the worst things imaginable to me, that I was fooled about dmt, I was stuck in that space forever, that I have never really existed, I was just a dream, etc. I felt so much confusion and shame, fear and the like.


Returning was not so gentle either. Everything seemed very slightly familiar but i knew no language for a few minutes. I was convinced I had lost it, that I would live separated from sanity for the rest of my life.

After finally coming down, I grabbed my stash of spice and threw it in the toilet. I didn't know I had been there that long, but my partner said I then proceeded to stare at myself in the mirror for half an hour.

To get to the point, I found myself no longer myself at all, but rather a polo ball in a thundering, mud-flinging, intense match of polo between the "royalty" (this is what I call them since I've experienced them quite a many times in my hyperspatial travels) of hyperspace.

I (in this instance, the polo ball) was ricocheting all over the polo field, being slammed to & fro by the horse-mounted players' mallets.

Although the air was crisp, the sky the most perfect of blues, the sun was shining, the field was lush green & the spectators were all dressed in their hyperspatial finest, the unmistakable vibe/message to me was, "you're just a polo ball in our game, that's all you've ever been & that's all you'll ever be!".

At some point not too far into the journey, I (the polo ball) got caught up in a rythmic loop between several players, horses & mallets. It was one of those seemingly never-ending loops & I kept ricocheting off the mallets & the playing field faster & faster & faster & that was my entire conscious life (or so it seemed) up til that moment. I was their polo ball, that's all I ever have been & all I ever will be.

Luckily, due to my meditative & psychedelic training, I just let it be & eventually it ended.

But talk about wierd!!!!

I knew as soon as I had arrived back to baseline from that trip, that if it had been nearly anyone else experiencing what I had just been through, they would have flushed the rest of their DMT down the toilet & swore never to do it again.

I simply muttered, or perhaps thought to myself, "wow, now THAT was some seriously strange phenomenon there folks".:shock:

Too weird for me was when I started to feel like my body was being physically taken over by a powerful alien force entity of some unknown origin . Feeling it infiltrating my muscles and arms was the turning point when panic set in . I am super cautious now.
I've tried to will the whole concept away because it's completely
Crazy making and defys all rational thought . The feeling is so powerful when it happens it's hard to see it any other way . The short of it is that I have tempered my explorations ratically
From what they once were. For me that was and is a kind of end point . It's quite difficult to work past that .
