where did my crystals go?

I precipitated some crystals in the freezer from 6x 100ml naphtha pulls on 220 grams of STB bark that had been mixed with 220 gms lye and 3.2 liters of water. I had them in 2 separate jars, each looked like it had 0.5 gm to 1 gm of frozen material inside. I filtered them thru a coffee filter, then turned the jars upside down to dry on top of some chopsticks laying in a pyrex dish outside (hot day). When I left it, most of the crystals were still in the bottoms of the upside down jars. When I came back a bit later, it looked like the stuff had melted back into the solvent, or else vanished entirely. I realized a considerable amount of dmt might end up inside the chopsticks, so I removed them and turned the jars rightside up inside the pyrex dish. now there are some wet spots on the dish, filters, and jars, but no solids anywhere to be seen. I'm assuming that as the rest of the naphtha and water contamination evaporates, the solids will re-appear? i'm just freaked out because the amount of liquid left seems way too small to hold all those solids.

Ok, so i see crystals forming now, and the remaining liquids are very syrupy, leading me to believe that they have a very very high dmt concentration. I will let them evaporate completely

I would add that a friend of mine had the same experience. Big beautiful crystals that, when he tried to run then through a coffee filter, dissolved or melted into the coffee filter. He was pretty dissapointed but was able to recover some of it by soking the filter in solvent.

Good question would be how to save such crystals? Anyone?

Hey

Once you have precipitated the crystals in the freezer, get your filter and another container, filter the solvent into the spare container while it's still inside your freezer if you have enough space (if not you'll have to take it out of the freezer and filter it quickly before the crystals melt).

Then put the glass with the crystals upside down back in the freezer for a couple of hours to allow the remaining solvent to run off of the crystals.

After a couple of hours I then put it in the fridge to let any last solvent evaporate.

Hopefully that will stop them from melting for you :)

yay, I finally got my scale.

after 3day evaporation, I scraped up 467 mg of waxy, yellow/brown product, not that sticky, but not hard crystals either.

a final pull, much more saturated than the orignals, precipitated some more crystals. This time I skipped the filtration and decanted the naptha into another jar, then closed the jar with the crystals and put it back in the freezer. my hope is that re-freezing it will drive off additional naptha without stinking up the freezer (its not my freezer)
