for me, the alien-ness of the experience is attributed to kappas, which like sigmas, are downright otherworldly. some NMDA antagonists like dizocilpine are also very strange experiences. while I have the utmost respect for plants, and even believe to some extent that they possess some sort of spiritual energy, I don't think their effects result from it. synthetic compounds may give similar effects
