I had no idea what ketamine was when a friend showed up with that first vial of ketaset. I was 17, staying in a non-stop party house, taking copious amounts of everything we could collectively get our grubby little high-schooler mitts on. He showed us how to open it (not an easy task), how to cook it in the oven, and the wonders of the k-hole. We all quickly fell in love with with the little brown bottle and started taking all we could manage to get our hands on.
We combined it with everything, we knew nothing about it, and had no idea what we were doing. It was pure recreation and while there was really no value in it, I did have some really profound experiences at that time and recognized how powerful this substance was. Life goes on and ketamine faded into memory as just another novel drug we had a lot of fun with.
Several years later when I got really heavy into the rave scene ketamine showed back up into my life. Lots more hedonism and combinations ensued and it was like rediscovering a long-lost love. At this point I was starting to discover the true depth and power of these compounds beyond partying and raving and I did a lot of combining with high dose psychedelics and had what I would consider quite valuable and healing experiences.
My relationship with ketamine had always been off and on, I only did it when partying and always with friends. Eventually I started working with it on my own in low doses and staying high on it all the time. That line between "oh I'll just do a little bump before I go out" and "I NEED to do a bump before I can get out of bed" is very thin. Luckily my spurt with that wasn't too terribly long and I don't think I caused any really serious damage from it's use. It's a very interesting compound, but also one of the most insidious. Definitely tread with caution.
