Must 1 use hdpe (heavy duty) jugs, or could milk jugs work?

"Put the filtered bark tea back on
the stove and reduce it down to
about 2L. A hard boil doesn’t
seem to affect the final outcome"

what is the amount being reduced from? So reduce X amount down to 2L, X amount being?
this is a question because not everyone is using those exact quantity/measurements, ie: the book used 2kilos bark
some other people might want to use only 125g.

just curious.

SWIM found that 3000ml water mixed with lye and 200g root bark worked for him in a 2L milk jug.. To him it seems that if you used less it would be harder to decant the solvent.

thanks Cloud.

1 more thing, again i dont see why it would not work..instead of stinking up someones freezer could 1 take a cooler and switch out ice time to time?

Thanks again.

Hmm.. that could possibly work. SWIM didn't think his freezer was cold enough so he kept evaporating it until he decided just for the hell of it to stick it in the freezer to see what would happen.. and low and behold, crystals formed... I could see your idea potentially working, but SWIM doesn't have any experience doing this.

Milk jugs should be HDPE, just check for the number 2 on their bottom.

As far as using ice in a cooler, I don't know where you live, but I can get dry ice from my local supermarket for like a dollar a pound or something and would imagine that that would be more effective than regular ice and is still quite cheap. Regular ice may work, I don't know if it's cold enough to freeze precip all of the dmt, but it won't hurt to try.

still the handbook, still the reduction of liquid

why does the book call for a reduction of liquid to a certain amount? is this for other accurate measurements made in later steps?

if not then what? head scratching.

It's mainly to reduce it down to a more manageable volume of liquid. If you're working with a smaller amount of bark then obviously you won't have nearly as much liquid so it may not be necessary to do a reduction. There really is a lot of flexibility with this and most other teks.
