A few questions on the Marsfold Tek

I'm fairly new at this and sort of a noob. I started reading a bunch of teks and miscellaneous information on DMT extraction and I came across a tek that i think seems easy, fast, and has good yield (please correct me if I'm wrong).

I read Marsofold's tek and I was able to come up with a procedure that reflects what the tek does. Here it is:

Materials:
- ½ lb.–1 lb. (230g-460g) Mimosa Hostilis Root Bark (powdered). ~$65...Online herb store/ebay
- 70g Lye** (Sodium Hydroxide). ~$5……….………..Purchased off web- www.thelyeguy.com
- 35mL* Non-Soapy Janitorial Strength Ammonia …………………………..pref. Ace Hardware
- 250mL* VM&P Pure Naphtha………………………………….… Local hardware store or web
- 1-Quart* White Vinegar.
- Water (tap or distilled).
- 3-Liter Crock-pot.
- 1-Gallon, wide-mouthed container (glass or stainless).
- 1-Gallon glass (wine) jug.
- Heaping tablespoon.
- Measuring cups.
- Turkey baser or similar.
- 2, 1-Pint Mason jars.
- Filter Paper (Coffee).
- Refrigerator.
- Ruler.
- Funnel.

Procedure:

Note: This procedure is for 1 lb. (460g) Mimosa Hostilis Root Bark. For less yield, divide all measurements in respect to the desired Mimosa Hostilis Root Bark amount.
Procedure:
1. Mix an empty 1-gallon plastic jug with 1-Quart White Vinegar and 3-Quarts Water.
2. Put the Mimosa powder in a 3-Liter crock-pot.
3. Place the white vinegar and water solution in the crock-pot, and fill it as much as possible.
4. Stir well (no lumps), turn it on “High”, and let is sit for 2 hours.
5. After 2 hours, remove crock-pot ceramic liner, hold lid on an offset, and pour off most of the liquid into a 1-gallon, wide-mouthed, glass or stainless container.
6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 for the remaining white vinegar and water solution.
7. Leave the 1-gallon container over night.
8. Next day, you will notice that two layers formed, the bottom layer: smudge, and the top layer: liquid.
9. Being extremely careful not to pour any sludge from the bottom, pour the liquid into an empty 1-gallon glass (wine) jug.
10. Discard the sludge.
11. Pre-mix 5 heaping tablespoons (70g) of Lye slowly with 1-pint of warm water, and stir well.
12. Add this solution to the glass jug.
13. Cap the glass jug and tilt it back and forth for 1 minute to mix.
14. Add 250mL of Naphtha to the wine jug.
15. Add enough warm water to the jug to raise the liquid level and inch below the top of the jug.
16. Cap the glass jug and tilt it back and forth for 5 minutes to mix.
17. Leave the jug for 4 hours.
18. After 4 hours, two layers should appear: a lower dark one, and a smaller clear one on top.
19. Use a turkey baser to suck up the top layer into a mason jar. Be careful not to suck up any of the dark lower layer of the jug.
20. Seal the jar and place it in a very cold freezer for 3 days. Label it “Jar A”.
21. After 3 days, prepare another mason jar with a funnel and a coffee filter-paper in the funnel. Label it “Jar B”.
22. Take out “Jar A” from the freezer, shake it well (1 min) so all crystals on the bottom are stirred up.
23. Pour the contents of “Jar A” on the filter paper of “Jar B”.
24. You will notice yellow-white DMT crystals on the filter paper.
25. Allow the crystals to completely dry out on the filter paper that is still on the funnel.
26. Place the bottle of Ammonium Hydroxide in a refrigerator until decently cool.
27. Be sure that the crystals are absolutely DRY before washing.
28. Very slowly pour 35ml of the cold ammonia over the crystals to wash them.
29. Remove the filter paper with the crystal and allow the crystals to completely dry.
30. Enjoy!

Can someone who is experienced with this tek review these steps and let me know if anything is incorrect, or if anything needs to be added or etc. Note the material as well.


Another question I have is about the yield. What is the difference between yellowish yield and white yield? Which one is better?

And my final question is: If SWIM were successful in extracting DMT... how can SWIM smoke this with a regular pot bowl (Like this one)?

70g seems like an awful lot of lye, but for your amount it might be right.

For 100g of root bark, 1000ml of water and 25g or so of lye tend to be enough for doing STB. I'm not sure how this goes when you're doing an A/B (Acid/Base) extraction though. SWIM always has used STB (Straight to Base), but will be going FASA later as he's tired of evapping solvents.

Really, FASA is showing itself to be one of the best extractions. Though it does pull more than just DMT, which I believe can then be separated using Naptha but not sure at that point. Haven't done the FASA yet.

wow does anybody else do STB's of 100g root bark with only 25 grams of lye?? most of the time SWIM uses 1 gram of bark per gram of lye per 15ml of water

so for 100grams root bark SWIM would use 100g lye and 1500ml of water..is this wasteful?

SWIM always thought that the ph had to be really high with STB's otherwise you get crazy emulsions and it had to break down the cell walls...not sure though...would like to hear from somebody

You can keep DMT at room temp, just out of light and heat. Some do keep it sealed in the freezer. I'll tell you though that sharing 600mg with SWIM and a FOAF, it lasted maybe 2 weeks. But SWIM also tried some orally which didn't work for him cause he didn't have much left.

FASA appears to be very simple. Just do your normal STB tech, but when you do your naptha pulls, use Xylene instead. Then mix in the Fumaric Acid/Acetone mixture until it stops precipitating out.

This will result in DMT fumarate which can be taken orally with an MAOI such as THH (which SWIM hears is one of the best ones). To smoke this though, one needs to convert back to freebase.


I'd do the extraction you mentioned first. Then later you can try others once you get some comfortability going.

That bowl you have is exactly what SWIM has.

The way SWIM does it is putting the DMT on top of ash. This makes the smoke a bit smoother, not as harsh. Weigh out around 30mg, or about 1/2 pencil eraser in size.

Just don't let the flame touch the DMT. It will melt when the flame gets near and begin to vaporize. The smoke is harsh and you'll probably have the urge to cough, but hold it in.

Hold for 20 seconds or so, and then take a 2nd hit. Just know that the DMT will melt into the ash, so it's still usable for a few more uses, at least for SWIM.

pencil eraser is about is about 30mg half of one is like 15mg...just put as much as you can in your bowl and then hit it

i guess it also depends on how dense your spice is too

I'd really like an answer to that question as well, as I was just about to attempt the lazymans tek and am wondering how much lye for how much bark I need. I was under the impression, (according to lazymans) 200 grams of NaOH/sodium hydroxide into 2000-3000 ml of tap water, and that's with 400 to 500 grams of bark, so about half of what you are saying.

Can someone please confirm the steps that I typed in the beginning of this thread.

And if I wanted to use, say, half a pound of MHRB, all I have to do is divide every ingredient by 2, correct?

If your doing the marsosold extraction w/ 1 lb. of mhrb.... then yes use the directed amount of lye (70 g's) into heated water but wear gloves, eye protection and a painters mask and pour the lye into the warm water very slow because it will.....well you'll see... but just pour the lye in a little at a time and the hotter the water the easier the lye will dissolve into it.

Just a couple suggestions w/ the mars tek that swim has found to make life a little easier....Instead of using a gallon wine jug,use a gallon pickle jar it makes pulling up the naptha so much easier but put some plastic wrap and a rubberband aroung the lid that way when you agitate (tilt it back and forth) the solution,you dont get any unwanted leakage.Along with using a turkey baster if you can get a syringe (not w/ a needle) but the kind vets give to crush up pills to make into a liquid to feed your animal...this will help you get up more naptha when you only have a thin layer left (the turkey baster will start to pull up the mhrb solution (which you dont want),some people will use eyedroppers to pull up the rest of that thin layer.

Also.... when you have the dmt saturated naptha in the baking dish, swim will let about 2/3 of the naptha evaporate before he puts it in the freezer. What swim will do is get some chease cloth (ace hardware) and cover the baking dish with the cheasecloth and tape it so it isnt loose(to prevent any dust getting in the naptha) and set a fan over the baking dish to make it evaporate faster.If your using 275 - 300ml of naptha,it should only take a few hrs to get the solution down to 1/3rd of the volume. This process is to make the naptha more saturated w/ dmt and it will get you more yield during the precipitation plus the crystals will precipitate a lot faster...there is no need to keep it in the freezer for two day's (overnight is fine).

One last thing, when you add the naptha to your basified solution,in order to make the layers seperate a lot faster (if your using a crockpot) put water in the crockpot and put it on high,then put the pickle jar in the crock pot with the heated water (its calle a hotbath) this will make the layers seperate a lot quicker.

I didnt see your last post...but yes if your using a half a pound cut everything in half including the pickle jar....although i dont know if they have half gallon pickle jars but i'm sure you'll be able to find something comparable but having a widemouth jug is soooo much easier then using a bottledneck wine jug imo.

Oh...and dont do the ammonia wash. Alot of people have problems with that instea just recrystalize and if you "search" recrystalizatin you'll find the correct way to do it but if your end product comes out lookind nice and white or clear a lot of the time there is no need to wash or recrystalize anyway.

What is the baking dish in this case? And how will it evaporate without heat? And under what steps of the procedure that I wrote would this fit into?

Do you put the water in the crockpot with nothing else, and then place the pickle jar (wine jug) with the naphta in the water that was just heated?

Instead of putting the saturated naptha in a mason jar swim prefers to use a glass pyrex baking dish (it's easier to evaporate the naptha using it, because of the open surface area).If SWIY uses a baking dish just remember to cover it w/ plastic wrap before putting it in the freezer.

If swiy is using 275 - 300ml of naptha and uses a baking dish (covered w/ cheasecloth)...a fan will do the job to evaporate the naptha down to 1/3 of it's volume in about 4 hrs then simply put it in the freezer overnight,covered in plastic wrap and swiy should have some crystals growing on the baking dish by morning.

if you heat up water in the crockpot then plase the pickle jar/wine jug the layers will seperate in about 45min to an hr rather than 4 hrs.

here's the original tek,which he wrote using a bking dish instead of a mason jar.Swim finds it's easier and save's time.

How to easily make DMT:
=======================
Break 1-Pound of Mimosa Hostilis rootbark into 1" pieces using new heavy-duty
wirecutters, then grind it all up in a glass-topped blender, a little at a time.
------------------------------------
Polar Extraction: Premix in an empty 1-Gallon plastic jug: 1-Quart White Vinegar
& 3-Quarts Water. Put the ground up Mimosa in a 3-Liter crockpot, then fill it
with the water-vinegar solution. Stir well and turn it on "high". After 2 hours,
remove the crockpot ceramic liner, hold the lid on slightly offset, and pour off
most of the liquid into a 1-gallon wide-mouthed glass or stainless container.Add
the remaining water-vinegar solution to the crockpot again. Stir well and turn
it on "high". After 2 hours, remove the crockpot ceramic liner, hold the lid on
slightly offset, and pour off all of the liquid into the same container again.
Discard the rootbark fiber and save the two combined extractions in the 1-gallon
container. Allow the vegetable particles in the extraction in the 1-gallon
container to settle to the bottom overnight. Then pour off the liquid into an
empty 1-Gallon glass wine jug, being careful not to pour off any of the vegetable
sludge at the bottom. Discard the sludge and keep the contents of the wine jug.

Basification: Premix a solution of: 5 heaping Tablespoons (70grams) of Lye
(Lowes Hardware, item# 146450 "Roebic Crystal Drain Opener") SLOWLY added to
1-Pint of warm water. Stir well. Slowly add this solution to the wine jug,then
cap the jug. Gently tilt the wine jug back and forth for 1 full minute to mix.

Nonpolar Extraction: Add 275ml of (Ace Hardware) VM&P Naptha to the wine jug.
Add exactly enough warm water to the jug to raise the liquid level to an inch
below the top. Cap the jug. Gently tilt the wine jug slowly back and forth for
5 full minutes to mix the contents. Allow the jug to sit undisturbed on a table
for at least 3 hours. There should now be two layers visible in the jug, a lower
dark one and a smaller clear one on top filling the neck of the jug. Use a glass
turkey baster to suck up the top clear layer into a large glass baking pan. Be
very careful NOT to suck up any of the lower brown foam/black liquid layer.

Freeze-precipitation: Cover the glass baking pan with plastic wrap and place it
in a FREEZER for 3 days to precipitate the DMT crystals. Remove the pan from the
freezer and quickly lift the plastic wrap from a corner of the pan. Tilt the pan
and slowly pour off all of the naptha through the exposed corner, being careful
not to dislodge the crystals stuck to the bottom of the pan. Re-seal the corner
of the pan by stretching the plastic wrap back over it. Allow several hours for
the pan to reach room temperature, then remove all of the plastic wrap. Allow
the crystals in the pan to completely dry out overnight in a cool place. Then
use a pair of single-edged razor blades to scrape up the impure DMT crystals.

Ammonia Wash: Prepare a filter setup by placing a funnel into a quart jar and
putting a small coffee filter paper into the funnel. Place the impure DMT crystals
into the filter paper. Chill a bottle of NON-SOAPY clear Ammonium Hydroxide
(Ace Hardware Janitorial Strength Ammonia) in a refrigerator. Slowly pour 35ml
of the cold ammonia over the crystals (still in the filter paper) to wash them.
Remove the filter paper from the funnel, spread it out flat and allow the crystals
to COMPLETELY dry out. You will now have 2-1/2 grams of white crystal DMT.
Mix it with some dried parsley and smoke a little in your favorite pipe!

just dont do the ammonia wash and do the three acidified cooks in the beginning instead of two like wriiten in this tek.

100g of lye for 100g of bark in 1500ml of water is totally wasteful. As a matter of fact, Noman's tek asks for too much lye, but that is absolutely OK. Too much is not a problem and it is foolproof.

In reality, one needs to dissolve 4grams of lye in 1000ml of water to get a pH of 13. Or, 40g of lye in 1000ml to get a pH of 14. SWIM's FOAF is totally aware of that and he usually does 20g of lye /litre of water / 100g of bark.

Noman's tek requirement for excess lye does an important thing; it also neutralises loats of acids present in the bark. Just imagine this scenario;

STB works at a pH of 13. So, one gets 1000ml of water and dissolves JUST 4g of lye. The pH of the water gets to 13. Gooood....Then one adds 100 of bark in the basified water. As long as this is done, the acids of the bark will drop the pH of the water. The acids from 100 of bark will certainly "defeat" the 4g of lye. The pH may fall to as low as 10, and the STB will not work.

But if you add 100g of lye in 1000ml of water the bark then one should not encounter such a problem. As I said, it is foolproof. But in practice as little as 20g per 1000ml per 100g is more than enough lye to neutralise the bark's acids AND keep the pH high enough.
