Adding water to soup

Im sure this is ok but I wanted to double check. Is it ok to add water to the soup once lye has been added to raise the ph. The reason for adding more water is to raise the water level in a glass wine jug to make taking pulls much easier.

Diluting the solution could lower the pH. Add a little bit of base to the water that you add just in case.

A always put just a lot of lye and then I do what you're suggesting. Then the pH wont drop too much if there's a lot of lye in there.

But if you need to add a lot of water then yes I'd put some lye in it first.
