Hello everyone. Still very new to DMT and extractions. Still trying to find my bearings. I have done one complete extraction that did not go all that well yield wise. I have started on my second and its doing just as well as the first which is not good. This seems to have far more information than reddit does,

Sorry for the delay, my days off were spent with the kiddos.
First pull
So I took 6 cups of distilled water and added 1/2 of a cup of lye. I stirred it until completely dissolved. I then added 2 cups of powdered Brazilian MHRB <snip> [Sorry - no sourcing!]
I mixed the MHRB with the water until the time it was uniform. Then added 1.5 cups of naptha that was sitting in water from my electric kettle. I proceeded to turn the jar back and forth allowing each turn for the naptha to rise to the top, about 30 times.
After which I placed the naptha into the freezer in a flat glass brownie pan.
I did this three times and got 1.2 grams of white crystals with bits of brown to it.
2nd batch
Just going to go through the changes I made.
For the second pull I cut the lye back by a bit and added 1/3 of a cup. I used the same naptha. This time I also weighed out 100 grams of MHRB. The turning over of the jar was now done about every 3 hrs for 2.5 days. After each pull I repeated the process again.
What I got was a slightly yellow crystalline powder. In total from the second batch was roughly 2.7 grams. I am assuming that there was some residuals in the naptha.
I used it once so far from each batch. The flavor is much worse on the first batch. The journey was about even between the two however.

The bit where you mentioned where your bark came from had to be edited out because of our rules here.
The bits of brown sound like you may have brought some of the base soup over with your naphtha. This would be one way of explaining the terrible taste of the first batch. It would probably be worth recrystallising the product of the first batch - if the (reddish?) brown patches dissolve into a bit of water, that would be a sure sign of base contamination. Of course, you may simply have improved your vaping technique between the two batches, but I still get the strong hunch that this will be a case of base soup contamination.
The slightly yellow colour of the second batch is completely normal, going hand-in-hand, to a degree, with the longer extraction times. It's much better, also, to have weighed out a precise amount of bark in grams, rather than using the, frankly, utterly vague traditional US volumetric measurements (i.e. cups). 2.7% yield is thus much more easily calculated in this latter instance - and a very respectable amount, I might add.
Good job; pics of the first extraction results would help in diagnosis of the possible contamination.

your yield is almost 3 percent, which is really good. Anyway if the the smell or taste is off, you could consider a mini-AB to improve the purity a bit.

Yeah, that looks pretty good, if that's showing what you referred to as the brownish blobs then it appears to be the oily patches that DMT often forms.
What vaporisation/smoalking method did you use? Depending on how you did this, it could also have a large impact on the flavour.

It smells fine but the taste is pretty bad. It still gets me where I need to be. I think I might just pick the brown bits out.That looks delicious, and welcome
I have been smoking it out of a bong with a banger. I do not use the bong for anything else. I use a heat gun to get it to about 400 degrees and then dump and take it all in with a single breath.

Let's see, that's about.. well, 400-32)*5/9=204°CIs this a value that you've dialled in to be optimal? and have you checked the banger temperature with something like an IR thermometer?
There's a possibility you'll benefit, flavorwise, by letting your banger cool a bit before dumping on the DMT. 175°C suffices (for convection devices, mind you), which is about 50°F cooler.
I guess freebase is never gonna taste that great anyhow

So I do have a heat gun. I get it to 400 because I am never in a rush. Gotta set my torch down, pick up the paper with the DMT on it etc. My bedroom is also quite chilly.

Sounds like you're doing fine - the remaining questions would be - have you been weighing your doses? and what do you make of the effects?
I do weigh my doses. When I decide I want to partake I consume roughly 20 mg. I am mixed on the effects however. I had my first dose about 6 months ago. When I did it at that point, I fell in love with it.
The last two experiences have been very difficult. I have no idea why but I forced myself out of both experiences right as they were starting as I got an extremely bad feeling about what was happening. So I am on a hiatus.
A little about the experience I had. It started with just the visuals of some colors. Then I entered a black and white room with pillars in the center. There was no sound but utter silence. There were two human figures. They had no faces nor any clothing. The black one seemed covered in oil. However it had no face or gender. The white one was identical to the black one but the substance was milk white and thick like white out. They did not walk towards me but floated. They did not seem aggressive but I felt an overwhelming sense of dread. When they got close they reached out to me. This is where I could feel that tingling in my mouth and I felt like I was unable to breathe. My dogs who normally just lay there and watch over me began to bark angrily. I am not sure how I was able to do it but both times I was able to jump off my couch and force my eyes open. I had a burst of energy. Everything was like a cartoon with my eyes open. The only thing that was not was my tv that was currently off. I was able to see the black figure in the tv screen. It was reaching for me.
Decided to back away for awhile, perhaps I was in a bad head space. However I have this strange feeling drawing me back each and every day. Urging me to take a dose and finish the experience. Morbid curiosity maybe but still very uneasy about the idea of doing it quite yet.
