Amonia wash?

So after reading some of the teks here I have a question. This is based on Nomans tek also. Once you have dried material it says to use an ammonia wash. Come to find out this is outdated? Or just not used anymore? My personal opinion is the cleaner the better. I Lean on the side of caution, especially if using such dangerous chemicals. Perhaps I am over thinking this but if I intend on going this route, I want to take every precaution necessary. Thoughts?

Ammonia wash is very out dated, check out the sodium carbonate wash in the wiki, or simply recrystallize the DMT, which is also covered in the wiki. Doing one, or both of these techniques will ensure your DMT is pure.

If by dried material you mean a freebase extract then yes you can wash it with ammonia. The spice wont dissolve in it and it may possibly wash away other things that are soluble in aqueous ammonia. I would chill the ammonia for safe measure before washing.

-As an alternative you can use a concentrated chilled sodium bicarb solution to wash as well with same effect as ammonia, though you will have a trace amount of sodium bicarb on your product once dry. Ammonia on the other hand evaporates entirely clean.

I don't see how it can get more clearer than the Wiki explanation

I'm thinking: once you have you dried crystals what can go wrong with washing with Ammonia? Just add Ammonia, decant or filtrate and let it evaporate. If you lose a lot of yield you can evap the rest of the ammonia (your filtrate) and get back all the DMT. Of course if you do that you haven't purified it but just saying: you can't lose anything.

The ammonia wash was removed because it was giving people various problems and NP washes were found to be more effective and easier to perform.
It does work, to a point, but the problem is that by washing the dried crystals, only the impurities on the outside are removed and anything trapped inside the crystal is left behind. An NP wash removes the impurities suspended in the solvent so that when the crystals form, there is nothing there to get trapped in them.

i recently had a great simple cleanup doing a basic A/B cleanup. i had a bunch of dirty orangish spice, even after plenty of sodium bicarb washes. I now have fluffy white!

Materials
vinegar
distilled H20
Lye
Naphtha

Basic/easy a/b with solvent recovery

dissolve FB spice in vinegar
filter
slowly add in drops of basified distilled water (no measurment, i simply dissolved a small amount of lye in a 50 ml or so of H20)
once it goes cloudy throughout entire solution, add a few extra drops to be safe.
add fresh nahptha, shake and separate repeatedly. no worry of emulsions, i had none.
remove solvent, freeze precip
add naphtha back to vinegar solution again to get last bit of spice that may have been left behind
reduce remaining nahptha by 50% (maximize freeze precip spice)
collect second round of freeze precips
you can keep reducing naptha to get more freeze precips, or simply evaporate remaining solvent on glass plate, and scrape up crystals.


should be some very clean product after. i should have documented with pics, the before after was quite a difference.
