Brain shocks, While on DMT

Whats up guys,

I dont post here often but I have a bit of a serious question.

Whenever I smoke DMT I get very strange shocks in my brain.

They are weird zaps and I can FEEL them in my head and even in my face (mind you I dont know how much of this "feeling" might be just from the high).

Its disorienting and distracting...

Idk if Im suppose to feel these zaps or if its a severe health hazard I should watch out for.

Last night I smoked 60mg (sandwiched) I didnt breakthrough but I was extremely rocked.

I was having this bit of zapping going on again and Ive made the decision to stop for a while..

I dont get them all the time but the majority of the time it happens.

My fiance pointed out last night that while she was holding my arm she could feel my veins *zapping* and the whole time I was out I was freaked out again with zap in my brain. When I open my eyes and she said that I got quite worried. Mind you it probably wasnt the best time for her to say that to me...

The later described that it wasnt really my "veins zapping" but she could feel energy zapping and pushing its way through me arms "towards my brain" I thought this was extremely weird. She said it was like she could feel the energy my brain was producing from the DMT.

Now I just want to ask... DOES ANYONE have any experience like this from smoking dmt and during the trip...

Mind you I also have really weird fucking trips... Rarely do I have trips of what people describe of all these amazing geometric patterns and stuff.... THey are there yes but most of my trips consist of intense visuals of objects and things I recognize in daily life flowing by and stuff like, warping in and out and what have you..

Im mainly looking for insight on this electrical type shocks I have... because they are very weird and scary and cause my trip to become kind of negative because of how it freaks me out.

Yes, it is normal and I experience it as well. I feel the energy rise through my body until it reaches the tip of my skull. I feel this energy throughout my brain as well, especially when taking larger hits through bongs.

You mention you smoked 60mg and didn't have a breakthrough. You may want to apply less heat by keeping the flame further away from the bowl. A third of that amount when dosed properly will likely get you to the same level and can even allow for breakthrough.

Also, the trips are usually quite different and weird and also vary from person to person. On the early levels of a breakthrough I usually see a single object that is distorted, stretched, warped, and so on. I sometimes enter the object and meet entities, sometimes the object forms into a whole new experience, there's no telling where it may go we must only go along.

I wouldn't worry about the electric shocks though. They were unnerving for me initially as well, but I've since come to embrace it.

So these shocks are normal? They are fucking weirdddd and you can FEEL them like I feel like it causes me to twitch when it happens... But have never been told ive twitched or anything.

Yeah I didnt hold it in all the way... It was one of those hits where you suddenly feel dread and back out real fast.

A recent post by jamie sums it up nicely as well. In my thread "I'm sick of following my dreams" where I posited that the teachings of DMT could be shared through traditional education, jamie made the great point that it is just not the same without the energy of DMT. I'll let jamie explain,

I guess we have a different take on the term "teaching" in relation to this topic.

For me much of what goes on in the tryptamine state is energetic. Sure I have visions and realizations where I learn other things..but the energetic aspect is very important for me, and you dont get that without taking DMT or maybe going yoga or some other practice that take far longer to achieve the same state as just ingesting some plants does.

It is like, I cant get the energetic aspect of a yoga session without doing yoga..and I cant get the true feeling of what it is like to ride a wave unless I am actaully doing so..DMT is like this. I cant get to that place of energetic activation on demand like that unless I take DMT.

Without that experience the teaching are just like a bunch of substanceless slogans.

The energetic shocks you feel are a natural result of this powerful substance. Like the taste and smell, it should get better with time and experience.

I don't think they are completely out of the normal, but I do know DMT can significantly raise blood pressure, do you have any issues with your blood pressure ?

I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing here, there seems to be a lot of mix-up in here between twitching, energy, electrical pulses, and pressure.

I can say sometimes right as laying back I'll get an intense muscle twitch in my forehead/eye region, not an imagined one either. They usually go away pretty quick and I find it best to just breath and relax, if I start focusing on them they tend to keep happening, although i've never really tried to see if I could make it happen the entire duration as they aren't exactly comfortable.

As far as the weird trips go, very rarely do I see geometric patterns anymore either. The experiences i've had range from little multicolored ball men, seeing molecular structures, weird symbols, a rainbow worm, jesters, entities, geometric patterns, a giant neon whale, blindingly bright 3d floating cartoons, huge 3d flowers, demons, a red lego'ish man screaming at me in a disco ball, feeling like I was in outer space being flung around in a gigantic circle, the list goes on... I've come to expect to have no idea whats about to happen when I pickup the pipe. Every-time I think i've found a theme or a pattern, it seems to shift and change to something totally different.

yeah thats why I was so surprised...

I really felt this was unique shock and that it wasnt normal.

Its not comfortable one bit and I couldnt find much on it while searching for it.

Sometimes yes I will get it in my eye region and I can feel it physically.

Its not comfortable... Its like I can feel some firing in my brain.

No blood pressure issues...


I do suffer from heart palpitations though.

Possibly.. Its hard to say since everyone's experience is so subjective.

Did it FEEL like something triggering a shock?

Its a very hard thing for me to explain... The word ZAP really defines it best haha.

Did you feel "physically" like a ZAP at moments?

What is similar is that when this doesnt happen I have familiar but obviously (always is) very different trips but it at least feels like DMT trip should

When this happens its something totally different... The visuals are different and everything. When the zaps happen they cause a moment of distortion if visuals, maybe for a half a second.

It definitely feels like something is happening to make the feeling that is beyond my ability to affect. It doesn't feel like an electrical shock but yes a "zap" in a sense that it is like a pulse of intense energy "zapping" my brain or consciousness that isn't too pleasant but doesn't hurt either it is just like a stun. I guess you could say it feels like your brain is being tazed momentarily with a cattle prod but it doesn't hurt just kind of jolts you into submission for half a second and almost makes me cringe.

I only seem to notice it while I am coming down, I haven't broken through but have had some strong experiences and the feeling comes on toward the end multiple times, it is stronger than the initial experience. I haven't really noticed it changing the visuals but it does seem to override them almost like a white light experience but it happens so fast and unexpectedly that it is hard to say, sort of like looking at lightning you can't really remember what exactly it looked like it was so fast.

Yes it physically feels like a zap to the body/brain like I am overpowered with it and would most likely be incapacitated if it lasted any longer.

Also there is no specific timing to them they just come randomly.

Its strange, and I dont get it when I breakthrough but it does freak me out and kind of puts me off from doing it because Im worried about if its physically hurting my health.

Also - and this might not be the same thing -

I have what feels like a sharp zap, or twinge that rushes though my head really quick when I take a large hot hit. I found some of this was due to not airing out the final product enough.
I now let my spice sit in open air for 3 days, stiring accasionally, to make sure it is completely completely dry of any solvents.

I have noticed a huge reduction in the 'zap' in doing so.

Only happens at the start for me though, so might not be exactly the same.

....good long evap. doesn't hurt!

Odd. Volvox, I don't know if it is the same thing because I'm pretty sure mine has got to be a little oxidized if anything, I made changa with it after a day or two of evap and then put it in a glass nug jug with a cork that I don't think is too airtight.

I spent a little while looking around for relevant information, found this The White Light! - DMT Experiences - Welcome to the DMT-Nexus and a few other things here and there. The link seems to fit well with what I am feeling, though it is slightly worrying only because of the intensity and sober onset.

I had a similar feeling to this a long time ago after excessive MDMA use, but I'm not going to say it was exactly the same because it was years ago and I can't recall the feeling that well but I would kind of zonk out for a second somewhat similar to having my brain zapped for a second. If I recall correctly that felt more like a heavy space out but the zaps I am getting from the DMT are more like an overload of energy if that makes sense.

Ive read that post in search of what I was experiencing and I dont think its the same thing I am experiencing...

Also when this happens its ONLY when I smoke DMT, I dont have this happen to me from any other psychs nor while sober. :/

But they way you just explained it here while on DMT is exactly how it feels when Im blasting off as well.

I experience this too (although typically not with a breakthrough dose.)

What will happen is I will smoke a bit. Enough to get "buzzed", excited, whatever you want to call it. Then I'll be sitting and thinking. It seems certain thoughts, visions, smells and sounds trigger.... whatever it is. "Zaps" if you will. The best way I can describe it is the world like rushing towards my face, along with all of my senses being caught up in the "zap". A sound that is almost like a pressure pushes on my eardrums, my body (especially my chest and arms) feel as though they constrict and I'm assuming my pupils dilate very rapidly although I have never been able to catch them doing so as it is so random.

I've had this happen even just from resin left over in my piece (I use a Key v2 vaporizer in my glass bong.) Kinda weird when you're smoking something else and you suddenly get that DMT "WUB" all up in your face. A bit disorienting to say the least.

A while back, I found I could reliably trigger the "wubs" (as I like to call them because that is kindof what I hear.) by staring directly into the mouthpiece of my colorful bong (obviously not a great idea when there is smoke in there.) The instant my eye touched the glass, the inside of the bong would "morph" into a kaleidoscope and I would feel a profound "wub" followed by a few seconds of ringing.

I found that coming off a cycle of ssri drugs causes the same thing you seem to be explaining.

I have never had this happen to me until the past couple times I used DMT but the feeling was the exact same when I was waking as it was during the DMT sessions.

Rollingwood, I have read about this phenomena occurring on SSRI withdrawal as well. I'm starting to think it has something to do with serotonin coming back into the synapses, possibly at a faster than normal rate?

Hopefully you can follow me and forgive me if the terms are incorrect, I don't know much about neurochemistry. From my understanding DMT takes the place of serotonin in synapses and during sleep serotonin is also at a low point, I'm not sure exactly what is going on during SSRI withdrawal but I assume it has something to do with allowing serotonin to be absorbed into the synapses in which it was previously inhibited from being absorbed fully. So if these shocks are all happening during low dose DMT, waking from sleep, and withdrawal from SSRI it would make sense that they are somehow caused by serotonin reuptake.

Hopefully someone more qualified can jump in on this and clean up what I am trying to say and maybe provide some insight.

There is all varies of SHOCK which i receive.


Maybe next time try with a very small dose. Experiment a bit.


* with a breakthrough i find it a lot easier, just rocketing away.

* with a sub breakthrough or changa dose, i find it a lot more intense trip, Much more vibrational energy. and no breaking through

I find it easier with everything too breakthrough; Past the limits i can plateau.

What is your posture like? Do you have any postural misalignments that you are aware of?

How is your every day movement of your fingers and toes?

Do you commonly feel any kind of joint or muscular tension or discomfort?

.. and more personally -- how is your every day digestive, sexual and respiratory functioning ?

I've similarly felt these sensations although right after it feels like my brain melts down into one big bubble, and then the big bubble pops into a bunch of tinier bubbles which then pop with accurate precision. but soon as that is done any anxiety i get is instantaneously gone, and that is my small experience with these so called energy shocks.
