Considering Ayahuasca For Growth Post 5-MeO DMT Breakthrough

Lopsided Nobody

Esteemed member
In short, I have had a breakthrough with 5-MeO-DMT and would be open to using this again, however I am also aware that there are ethical and ecological concerns with the toad itself and have not currently sourced any synthetic 5-MeO. However, in talking with a therapist who does ketamine-assisted therapy, I found there is a group fairly local who does Ayahuasca ceremonies.

My question to myself was, frankly, why? In essence I had the experience of complete dissolution of self, felt at one with the All, felt touched and resonate all the way down to my soul, and very much born again. I do not feel any need. So, again...Why? The answer that came up was two-fold. Curiosity, and more importantly to see if any further lessons or growth would naturally step from that experience. My sense is that they would. Also, 5-MeO-DMT is very fast and overwhelming. My understanding from reading is while 5-MeO is a "destroyer," Ayahuasca give you more time and a different experience. So even if I track down synthetic 5-MeO-DMT, I find myself starting to be drawn back to considering a full Ayahuasca ceremony.

In essence, I am curious if others think Ayahuasca would be a good compliment to my 5-Meo experience. And for those who have done both, are there any general differences from what you gleaned from the experience? From what I have read I gather the actual experiences themselves may vary dramatically, however I would be interested in hearing any insights or thoughts you might have.

Ayahuasca and 5-MeO-DMT are about as different as they can be, but they do compliment each other very well in the sense that you get benefits from one that you can't really get from the other.

As you've already seen, 5-MeO-DMT dissolves your typical sense of self and reveals the unified substrate that binds us all and is in fact our true shared identity. It's generally the ultimate goal of meditation systems like Yoga, Zen, etc. Looking at it from that perspective, you wouldn't expect a meditation master to only enter deep meditation a single time and then merely live the rest of their life enriched by the memory of it. There are profound benefits to repeated exposure. The 5-MeO-DMT breakthrough is a lot like a built-in purification mechanism that burns away internal impediments towards fully embodying that extremely divine sensation. It's a miraculous substance that remains mostly unknown, misunderstood, and underappreciated for what it can really do.

I have less experience with Ayahuasca, but I find that it mainly works at the level of the subconscious mind. Instead of strictly revealing the unity of all things, it displays the infinite potential for manifestation. For me, it's like going to some kind of cosmic hyperdimensional therapist and receiving just the right messaging to experience an incredibly profound catharsis. It's like knots are untied in my mind and the correct path forward becomes more clear. Ayahuasca is very special, and it's 100% worth trying. If you can get your hands on DMT and a caapi harmala extract, you may have a more enjoyable experience in terms of less physical side effects.

Thanks for that. I think right now I feel no need to revisit 5-MeO-DMT or any entheogen. However, I can see your point and the thought has occurred to me that those profound benefits and the "built-in purification mechanism that burns away internal impediments" are precisely the reason why at some points in the future I am likely to seek it out. It is definitely something that I do not do lightly, but which has thus far been very transformative.

As for the complimentary nature of Ayahuasca and 5-MeO, that's what drew me into it. I think 5-MeO is more than enough, so to speak, and it seems like that has drawn you more than Ayahuasca. It has erased any "need" I had in seeking anything else, but curiosity and the apparently wildly different nature of the two is part of the appeal for me. I'll keep an eye out for the DMT and caapi harmala extract option and look for that. The formal Ayahuasca ceremony is something that was proposed to me by a friend, so there is that aspect. But the physical purge and overall enjoyment factor make DMT or changa at least somewhat more appealing.

In my opinion, if you were only going to use two psychedelics to better yourself, nothing beats DMT (Ayahuasca) and 5-MeO-DMT. They're top-tier choices, and I don't think it's inconsequential that they're both endogenous to the human body.

That's actually a great point. And at least in my experience thus far with 5-MeO-DMT, it feels very thorough. Psilocybin (in the doses I have used) felt very winding and gradual, and seems to build on itself, and Ketamine was enjoyable, but felt like chipping away at things or gently sifting things. 5-MeO-DMT, on the other hand, feels very absolute in every sense of the word, and fairly immediate almost akin to the ringing of a bell. My sense of DMT, having never taken it, is it's a very deep and profound thing. Different from 5-MeO, but complementary as you said. But the fact they are endogenous to us philosophically makes sense for personal growth and self-improvement, which is ultimately what I am striving for.

Thanks again, I appreciate that. This gives me something further to chew on.
