Czepas EASY Tek

[Czepa]

for this tek you need:

Big caustic-proof container, Big Saucepan, 2-4x500ml Beakers, 2x250ml Beakers, Funnel, Separation Funnel

White vinegar, Lye (>98%), Naphtha (or equivalent solvent), pH papers, a Clear Mind, and Accuracy

~Measure 100g of of MHRB, set it aside. Pour 1.4L of distilled water into a big saucepan and add 150ml of white vinegar - check pH, if its 2-3pH that's good. Add a little more and check again until you're happy.
~Add the MHRB powder to the water slowly using a fork to mix it all in thoroughly, then boil it for an hour. Always keep it mixed well, tend to it regularly (every 40 seconds or so)
~Decant that and set aside
~Add another 1.2L of 2-3pH acidic water, it has to be distilled water (used for ironing)
~Cook for another 30 minutes
~Decant and add to the rest of the source fluid
~Put all of this into a funnel with a Charmin filter in the spout. You will position this over the top of a large acid safe container that has got 10mm of naphtha at the bottom. [Reminder: Use a piece of cut up shirt to squeeze all the liquid from the acid cook from the powdered bark, discard plant material]

!:Appendix:: Charmin filter: a Charmin filter is 2 (3 for big funnels) squares of toilet paper which are folded then rolled into a cylinder which fits the spout of your funnel.

~After filtration is complete use your separation funnel to discard the naphtha (i cant stress enough how important accuracy is in separating properly and getting rid of everything you don't want)
~Now that you have a high quality source fluid you should put it into a clean saucepan, boil it to reduce the volume to around 1L all up (this will make it easier to extract)
~Now you should add your lye, but don't just add it directly to the source fluid, this can cause Glass to crack and end in disaster. Instead, mix 50g into 200ml distilled water, adding slowly. Now after that's done let it cool. Then add it to the source slowly. Stop adding it when the mixture stops clouding up and is completely black. pH should be around 13
~Now add naphtha and source liquid into a separation funnel at ratios of about 1:10 Naphtha:Source liquid
~Shake the Separation funnel vigorously for 8 minutes and then let it settle (swirl it around occasionally if it wont separate).
~Pour off the Source liquid, making sure to get rid of as much of the source liquid without losing naphtha. Keep the source liquid in a beaker and set it to the side (label it if you have to)
~Do this for the total source liquid. This is pull #1
~Repeat previous step another 2 times
~Now that you have DMT containing Naphtha, cover the beaker with glad wrap and poke a small hole at the top with a pin. Place this in the freezer and don't check it for 18 hours+
~Remove it from the freezer and pour off the naphtha and keep it to evaporate. Break all the chunks off the beaker and spread it out on a plate. Allow to dry for a few days.
~Scrape it up and weight it.

What is the point of this? a defat?

From what I know, you dont need to defat MHRB, its pretty slim as is.. other than that question great lookin tek. SWIM might try this

when i did my first extraction i used acacia so i did a drip filter defat then 2 pulls over the whole solution just to remove the fats.
and i suppose.... if you added 50g of calcium ascorbate (Vitamin C) to the acid cook.. it would make the defat work a lot better. and just for the record. loki deserves credit for the filter/defat method.

Hmmm. I didn't notice that you use it for anything later on.

Why not? AFAIK, spice at this stage is in salt form (acetate) and its boiling point is very high.

Looks like an overkill. In swim's experience 12.5 is enough.

Evapping naphta before freeze-preciping to ~1/5th of its original volume by warming to ~50C under a fan would reduce this time to ~4-6 hours. By making naphta supersaturated you also increase yields.

~Scrape it up and weight it.

What exactly is different in this tek from other A/B teks?

That is a good tek, my friend has been doing it for years. It's a simple A/B, nothing new or unique to call it a new tek. To be considered an "easy" A/B one would assume a steps were removed or replaced with a simpler step but it's actually an extra step from the basic A/B. Typically a defat isn't needed for MHRB. Not talking down just pointing out few thngs so people aren't confused with the same tek renamed.

Well i believe its explained very well, it is written in such a way that even the very beginner would have no problem following it, and since i got close to 2% with this and am happy with the way it works i post the tek.

i have a question:
This is from Loki's tek and im just wondering how true it is.

Why is calcium ascorbate used? The calcium ascorbate splits, the calcium binds with the tannin and forms an
insoluble precipitate and leaves behind the ascorbic acid, which has the added advantage of helping protect the
solution from oxidation. The ascorbic acid this process leaves behind maintains the acidity of the solution to pretty
much stay stable around 4 during the whole extraction process.

I've got it from aya forum. If I remember correctly it was suggested in hummingbird's phos tek. Second soak there requires 1/2 of the acid used for the first one. In the 3rd no acid is used.

My explanation is that after 2 soaks in acidified water your plant material is already quite acidic. You cannot sqeeze or filter it completely dry, so when you add pH-neutral distilled water your solution will be acidic. IME pH will be ~4. By this time most of plant cells are broken. Therefore there is no need for more acid to get out the remaining goodies.
