Dieta(s): share your experience

yes, apparently even very small amounts of fat intake is disastrous in terms of how it affects the brain , you see this in the extreme when consuming something like aya
Apparently based on what? I’ve never heard this and honestly mostly I hear the opposite. Can you please provide sources for some of these far out diet claims you make.

I read in one book (maybe Ayahuasca in my blood) that the author's best experience was right after eating a chicken soup with a healer. Nothing is just black and white with these medicines. I feel Amazonian tribes have a much more relaxed attitude towards it. You go on a diet if you are an apprentice, but for normal folk, it is not a necessity. It is called a medicine for a reason. You would take a painkiller when you need it, not when your diet is optimal for the best absorption. To each his own, but I am much more chill about different modalities nowadays.

I think you are right that was Peter Gorman. Similarly I remember Alan Shoemaker on aya forums and elsewhere talking positively about eating oatmeal before a ceremony.

I feel you need some energy for your journey. Fasting can produce a good opening, but the experience can easily overwhelm you too. Oatmeal is sound advice. You need a soft food that is easily digestible and purged if it comes to that. The food can kick-start your digestion process too. Doing it that way may be better for modern users.

I couldn’t do it that’s for sure but I can’t tolerate starches well anyway. I know the oatmeal thing was a thing lots of ppl were into though for stronger ceremonies. Even buttered toast to activate brews.

Generally I will prefer to live on fruit and meat anyway with cooked green veg but I can focus on fruit.. so dieting for ayahuasca is easy I just drink lots of fruit blended with coconut milk.

i can understand oatmeal/quinoa/buckwheat perfectly well as the meal of choice before a strong ceremony or even for people who meditate

Quinoa & buckwheat are a bit heavier, but they should do the trick. Basically, you want a mushy porridge.

By the way, not all meats are created equally, and even if all of them bring heaviness to the experience, you can still eat them a few days before and after.
Wild meats like deer or elk don't bring with them that dark, heavy feeling of animal suffering. Anyhow, the medicine itself directs you towards a clean diet.
Even if I'm a meat-eater, I go vegetarian for a few days if I plan to do a ceremony. Plant energy is just so much lighter and compatible with it.

personally, i have never gotten positive feedback from consuming animal foods, and not for a lack of consuming them

i don't deviate from feeling just right, which is largely a result of what i eat, and if i move around or get some sunshine and breathe as a secondary element

ive found through more than a decade of experimentation that one or two meals based on whole complex carbs and minor additions of greens/fruit&veg (and nothing else) and drinking moderate amounts of hot water/herbal teas induce just the kind of state i want to be in 24/7

(i use tiny amounts of salt on my tongue if i feel after a meal particularly or after great physical exertion in the hot sun my blood pressure may be falling low, but its like microdosing salt)

this has been essential to the experience of no-mind, fear extinction, continuity of state dependent memory, energetic alertness, higher cortical arousal, maintenance of base cognitive rate .

the dieta used to be the thing of importance among the shamans of the south western amazon, and i can see why, its not about if you ate right 3 days before a ayahuasca ceremony, its about continuing the same line of consciousness that is so hard won , the light in the vast confusion of humanity, for the rest of your life

60 seconds a minute, 60 minutes an hour, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 4 weeks a month, 12 months a year, 20 years a generation, 4 generations a lifetime
and wouldn't you like to experience your best self all the time? thats what it seems to be about from my perspective

Exactly right. But I'm not a shaman and do not live in a pristine environment. Basically, I need to compromise. Do not get me wrong, I agree with you, and your approach was the direction these medicines pointed me right from the beginning. Sadly, we are coming back full circle, and I promised not to derail this thread. Our living environments differ, and I simply cannot sustain such a lifestyle at the moment. Even reaching the point where I'm today took years and lots of pain. If you can do it, I'm simply glad for you. Humanity is better for it.

Neither did I. It was the other way around. I posted about meat in order not to discourage people like myself. One time I ate deer heart on the day of the ceremony, and was shown why not to do it. I will remember this lesson for the rest of my life ;)

yes, i can relate
i was just trying to say a little about why i started this thread

for example i think if somebody was reading this and came upon the oatmeal thing, it would probably click for them and they could potentially have a much better experience

so we who are discussing this from different perspectives agreeing on that 1 thing could be the point of this thread, basically

This thread actually goes very deep into the nature of this work. What you have shared in your last post is what we should strive for.
That hard-earned opening we get through the medicine could be sustained for a long time (your whole life) given the proper environment.
I feel that is how those Amazonian healers actually live. They sustain their diet and drink ayahuasca. No wonder they think that Western people are crazy - we are 😆

to put things into context

i think the way a dieta works is by providing the body with nourishment without excitation

where over time (rather short amount of time) the nervous system and the brain dial themselves back into a more balanced tune of available oxygen, energy, nutrient delivery and drainage relative to the rate of the excitation of the neuron cells

this can be described as a very stable state of deep calm and flow

an oceanic calm which is needed to support the tremendous excitation brought about by a hefty dose of ayahuasca, as to prevent total psychological breakdown and trauma and reinforce the possibility of prolonged homeostasis in peak awakeness

If we think of different religions and cultures, they are from different regions of the world which dictate what kind of foods will be available to them. I would imagine people who were more isolated or lived where foods that are common to one person was not so common to another, those people would have to use what was available to them.
From different tubers, to different, plants, meats, spices....
I also think if we are trying to optimize our nutrition without excitation, we need discipline, meditation. Its very easy for most people to be over reactive. I think our conditioning from our society can have a greater impairment on our physical and mental health then our diets.

I think with all the advancements in our world, we should take advantage. Using sleep monitors, getting blood work, eeg. Any tools that can help measure to give us direction can be beneficial in aiding our aims and goals.

Healing starts from within, But diet is very important to.
Personally I wish i could live more harmoniously with nature, it is my north star. Following that star comes with a lot of sacrifice.
But many cultures incorporate spices which i find to be one of the more amazing things one can add to any diet even fasted.

Also i will add, about discipline to know our body's requirements. We dont need to starve ourselves, we should have a healthy diet. Too many calories or too little and we can become unhealthy.
Some exercise, cardio, weightlifting, breathing exercise could all be incorporated.
I think we should look from a more holistic point.

But i think we should also keep in mind every person is different, and there is many different paths that can take us to the same destination.

Basically, harmalas and medicines based on them point to a certain way of life. These medicines produce a solid opening in the psyche that leads there. Lots of what you described could be omitted if you do follow with the program they present. Sure, it implies constant drinking and sustaining the state in day-to-day life. Yes, our tribe of people presents the biggest challenge. I'd argue that in places where caapi and rue grow, such a lifestyle is still a possibility even today.

Im not very experienced with harmalas, But yesterday i had a amazing experience which i attribute to harmala's. The deep sense of presence and meditative state i acquired was very healing.
I did not mean to put so much emphasis on the details. I think if we look at yogis, monks, taoist Master. There was no one body type. Some looked over weight, some skinny.
Yesterday was very eye opening on the use of harmala's and i wanted to comment since it felt so in line with what i felt.

No worries. I just wanted to get you up to speed about what is pointed at in this thread ;)
Meditative experience indeed sounds like harmalas. I feel they are pointing in exactly that direction.

I would be willing to bet that vegetalismo, and plant dietas in the Amazon are practiced far outside of the context of ayahuasca or harmala use. I bet that way of life had nothing to do with harmalas or ayahuasca but we in the west are sort of obsessed with one aspect of these cultures…in this case it’s ayahuasca and we with narrow minds focus in on that one thing.

Just like how people go on about how amazing it is that people figured out how to combine two plants…well the plants must have told them. But probly not. In reality we know they were just combining lots of stuff with Banisteriopsis before and after chacruna. Most of the Amazon does not use ayahuasca.

Some people have actually taken to huffing gasoline and consider it to have a spirit.

Paleros diet barks and have similar if not a higher status than ayahuasceros. I'm a rue drinker so here comes my bias.
I remember watching some documentary on YT about one Colombian Taita. He was asking why all the westerners that visit are so sick.
And facilitator tried to argue that he choses the best people who are willing to get healed. Our worldviews are pretty different it looks like.
