Differences in the dmt cleaning method, range of removal.

There are four main methods for removing impurities other than Dmt. These are: acetone washing, sodium carbonate washing, recrystallization, and mini-AB extraction. What is the range of removal for each of these methods? And which method is the most useful?

Different imo. Sodium carbonate is for lye contamination primarily and acetone is more solvent, oil contamination.

Hi Ran,

Welcome here on the nexus, I see you are very curious about DMT and on the procedures to extract, I also see some double posting, and an somewhat impatient attitude, and now you are repeating the same question as in the first post in this thread, twice.

There is no need for this here and honestly it makes me a bit sad that this is something that needs to be addressed, people here at the nexus are more than capable to read the first post so there’s no need for double posting.

My advice would be to take a bit of time and accept that it might take some days before someone can help out, in the meantime focus on reading up on the different methods and then post your progress in the thread. It helps to get a more valuable discussion going.

Finally you can use the FAQ thread for questions that have already been answered many times over.

Take care

We've a population more in the three-figure range rather than the tens of thousands like some other sites. This likely results from applying the aforementioned quality controls on posting behavior. A significant proportion of members are professionals in relevant fields, hence the limited amount of time some will have available for replying. Considered and articulate replies are preferred here and these can take time too.

I fully appreciate the difficulties you may be encountering in terms of working in a second, very different language. Running everything back and forth through a translator will be time-consuming for you and may well lead to errors and confusion. It will certainly make it rather difficult to for you to choose optimal search terms, and also to interpret and assess the value of the results.

I'm not certain what your level of chemistry understanding might be, but the level of your questions suggests to me that is minimal to basic. There are some useful Japanese chemistry resources online where you may be able to find a suitable entry point for improving your level of chemistry education. This would help you greatly on your quest.

Meanwhile, if there are any specific difficulties with terminology that you may encounter, please feel free to ask me specifically as I have a long-standing interest in a multilingual approach to chemical nomenclature. Japanese would be a new one for me, though!

Besides being a linguistic melting pot here, we have to consider how cultural differences come into play, even within the anglophone-"europhone" world. Text-based interactions such as we have here can lead to loss of nuance even for native speakers so I'm sure we can all appreciate that you deserve a little leeway while you get to grips with how things are done around here.

私の意見は違います。 炭酸優先は主に苛性ソーダによる汚染に使用され、アセトンは代替や油による汚染に使用されます。
What will be the extent of removal for mini-ab extraction and recrystallization?

Choice (or even necessity) of purification method depends on the history of the sample.
Thank you for your response. I'll do some searching on my own, learn some things, and if there is still no thread, I'll ask my question. Best wishes to all of you. What will be the extent of removal for the mini-ab extraction method and recrystallization?

The question is still unclear. Do you want to know how much of the DMT will be recovered, or how much of some (unspecified) impurity gets left behind? If you're talking about removal of coloured 'impurities' you have to bear in mind that DMT has at least two polymorphs, one of which is yellow, and also that it has a tendency to polymerise into a series of deeply-coloured oily or waxy materials. This polymerisation gets broken up to a greater or lesser extent by acid treatment, such as during a mini A/B.

We do have some threads where efficiency of pulls has been quantified, although the exact figure will vary depending on all the usual variables of extraction, including solvent composition. It would take a bit of a search to find the quantification thread(s), but there are some useful figures there.

PS: with recrystallisation [for purposes of purification] there will always be some losses. When growing large crystals by slow evaporation of solvent, that will be nearly quantitative. Solid DMT freebase does have a small vapour pressure, though, so exceedingly tiny amounts of it will be evaporating.
