My girlfriend has Trigeminal Neuralgia, she used to get flare ups of extreme pain in her face that would last for hours.

During the summer of 2025 we attended a music festival, I was given a dmt vape pen months prior and figured I’d take it with. I didn’t have too much experience with it, my first time trying it was at a music festival in the states, loved it, never blasted off but was very interested in going deeper with it so when a friend gave me a cart to keep to myself I decided to take it with me to the summer music festival. On the last day when we were watching the headliner, she started getting a flare up but didn’t tell me about it. I ended up pulling out the cart and the battery and offered for her to do it with me. She agreed and we both took hits bigger than we usually did. She ended up taking it while she was mid facial nerve flare up. She ended up getting her first experience in the waiting room. When she came out of the experience she told me she had a flare up and when she came back the pain had completely disappeared. In fact, for the next four months she didn’t get any flare ups, moreso the pain never returned to that side of her face ever again. It actually ended up switching to the other side of her face when she started getting extremely stressed at her workplace. Which for this condition, that’s not supposed to happen.

Was curious to know if anyone else dealing with chronic pain had something like this happen, specifically nerve pain. I did some reading on the web before finding the nexus and there were some clinical studies that showed promise with psychedelics for chronic pain but of course, nothing long term plus very limited information on it. Was hoping the fine folks here would know a bit more about it.

To some extent yes I have found DMT(and ayahuasca), psilocybin and ketamine can all have a positive effect on my neuropathy. Mine is down my right leg and in my foot with both burning and some numbness due to an auto immune disease. I think harmalas probly help too but have not paid close enough attention to say. Psychedelics have def not cured it and I still need meds at least sometimes but they do seem to help.

Ketamine seems to be especially good for this purpose but I don’t let myself use it very often.

I know ketamine is something she’s very scared of, a lot of our friends in our circle are heavily addicted to it. And she’s also a very novice tripper, her first psych was dmt since the pen is easy to dose and the commitment to the trip is short. She wants to try mushrooms next so we’re going to plan a day for that. But also at the same time she doesn’t want to be tripping all day every day for pain relief as well. I’ve heard Carbamazepine is very good at curbing nerve flare ups. Hoping we can find a doctor that could prescribe it to her so she can live her life again. Her mental state has been going down the tubes because of how debilitated she feels. So we’re being very careful with how many sessions of dmt or shrooms we do together. A bad trip is bound to happen at this rate.

It might be worth it to try microdosing mushrooms as well. I don’t need full trip doses for my leg to feel better than it was. I take psilocybin atm 4-5 days a week and just .07 - .1 gram doses. I only take more every other month or so. It’s not a one off thing though it seems like I have to keep up with it to continue getting benefits so it is what it is. I really love microdosing LSD as well but the vasoconstriction can bother the nerves in my leg more at times. It helps me with other symptoms though. Mescaline can help as well but might trigger my gut more which I already have issues with etc…so I think it’s going to be different for each person which one works best for their own set of issues.
