Just kidding! I really didn't know what to put in the subject line so I went for the rediculous. That said, beer does have something to do with the point of my post so be patient with me.

First, this is my first post so I would like to thank everyone for the invaluable information accumulated by this community. I personally have followed someones experience in spice extraction for about a year now. In this year I have seen the choice of solvents literally evaporate. Where I live it is impossible to find Naptha, Methanol, etc... This has led to the quest for an all-in-one solvent to at least do the most crude of extractions which would save precious solvent for final purification.

Unfortunately, I am not a chemist so I have more questions than answers. So far, the best tek I've used is calcium ascorbate, calcium hydroxide and naphtha occasionally Bestine if it seems things need to be cleaned up. I would be embarassed to admit how much good spice has been wasted in the quest for a reliable solvent for crude extraction. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Now for my questions involving beer... Who could argue that beer, wine, vodka, rum, everclear, etc. have different subjective effects. If it is all alcohol then why do they all feel so different? Further, each beverage provides a reliably similar effect from one time to the next. My mind wants to say that spice might be the same, but experience says different.

Within the same batch I've had intense experiences and blah. Intense ones are energetic, sharp edges, defined, colorful, emotional. I seem to wake up in the middle of saying "What? Oh shit! I'm not ready for much more!" Blah is more LSD-like EOVs with no ECVs. Middle of the road is what I call "pinwheel" visuals that lack energy and depth.

If it is all DMT, is there some variation in the way one solvent affects the molecules? Does anyone have any theories on the relative "energy" of one experience to the next? Does anyone else have reccuring themes such as sharp, faceted geometry as opposed to "rotating pinwheels?"

I realize that this post could have been broken into 50, so please excuse the ramble.

Any advice of thoughts would be most appreciated.

I was confident that this wouldn't be the dumbest post ever on this site, but perhaps I was overconfident...

there are different things that can affect your trip... main factor I would say is dosage. Not what you weighed out but what actually got absorbed by your body. Then setting, set, etc.. In fact, to figure tehse things out we designed the questionaire which full members can fill out with all kinds of details about pre-conditions; although we did not include the 'how was your psychedelics produced' question. personally I believe dmt is dmt. Sure trace amounts of solvent can affect the experience a little, but I doubt the effect is significant. I would think things such as stomach contents, contents of your mind, and amount of sleep you've gotten over the past few days play a bigger role. But the statistics will tell once we get them together.

cheers

I think i get this one

it's not "all alcohol" - for example, alcohol in beer is the byproduct of fermentation by a variety of yeasts producing dozens of different types of alcohols and other compounds. Alcohol in spirits is generally produced by distillation of an alcoholic mash liquor; these base liquors vary depending on the source of sugars in the mash liquor: gin, vodka, whiskey, rum - all distilled from mashes fermented from different starting sources like potatoes, molasses or grain. The resulting alcohols are predictably unique. In addition, the alcohol in each product is often used in combination with other psychoactives such as hops, or as a solvent to extract flavors from oak barrels, adding extra elements of complexity.

DMT is DMT - it's a molecule. Extractions simply bring this molecule from one matrix to another, as opposed to synthesis, which would create the molecule from other molecules through chemical reactions. But different sources of DMT may provide other psychoactives as well - desired or undesired - and different solvents may have different actions in extractions, providing different levels of purity. This is why certain solvents are recommended over others in the various teks. Then there are admixtures, in which DMT of various purity is deliberately supplemented by other psychoactive substances; for example, in changa.

It stands to reason that samples from the same preparation would yield similar effects, which could be different from samples of a different preparation. but these similarities and differences are often in the perception of the user. To drag the analogy back to alcohol, there are those who have the experience and have developed their senses to be able to tell the difference between various whiskeys, and then those who haven't. I have observed that psychonauts express their preferences in similar ways.
