although i have noticed over the years that it seems like when using lower dosages of Rue/Harmalas that while it still builds up the reverse tolerance and thus the Harmala content gets stronger, it almost seems like the Harmalas are lighter in comparison to higher dosages of Harmalas
Tbh, after using 8g+ daily for months, now 5g gives me what i wanted from 8g+ when it didn't before, it almost seems like theres a permanent effect from taking 8g+ for a long time and now lower amounts are enough.
But the background compounds definitely contribute as you increase the dosage of Rue, and i think the effects of the background compounds may be what you're experiencing. I myself have taken like 7 grams up to 10 grams, sometimes all at once, sometimes spaced out over the day by taking the Rue 2 to 3 times a day, but of course my body is already used to the Harmala content of the Rue so the main thing i notice from higher dosages is the increase in the level of the background compounds while the Harmala content stays pretty clean and the background compounds most definitely have things to contribute that you don't seem to get from the more common dosage range.
Interesting, do you have more info about the background compounds, how do you think they contribute? I always thought it was mainly just the harmaline and harmine even at higher amounts.
Also one thing to think about and try out is adding admixture plants to the Rue, you don't have to add DMT or another Psychedelic, you can add various different kinds of plants to it in order to alter/shift/change/add to/enhance and reduce side-effects of the Rue, you can "flavor" it in various ways and add elements which contribute to the different kinds of medicine that can be made with Rue. It's definitely worth exploring. I'm sure you've seen my mentions of Lemon Balm and ime it's worth trying out a 3 to 4.5 gram dried Lemon Balm leaf tea with the higher dosages of Rue, it'll help clean things up a good bit and helps the Rue feel better but also adds a nice flavor and character to it and adds some extra benefits, definitely check it out if you haven't already. But Lemon Balm is just one possible admixture plant, there are thousands and hundreds of thousands of plants in Nature which could be tried out as admixture plants with the Rue (or even the Caapi, as well as Harmala extracts), and on top of that you could even mix different plants together in combination with the Rue and make a cool unique recipe. There's so much potential there imo/ime, that most people don't really even think about, like they'll take just the Rue and think that's all there is to it, but if you really get into it and start mixing things together, you can create some really cool blends.
100%, you can definitely increase rue's potential with other plants, i have tried alot lol, you can check out my posts:
Sooo… here's a few coleus seedlings finally sprouting after a recent warm spell. Seems they like a bit of warmth to get going.

I swept up the sand where'd I dropped some seeds on the slabs in my conservatory and scattered it into the seed tray after filling tie cells with seed compost. Looks like it could do with a few more perhaps, although I'll prick out the larger ones into their own cells soon.
Maybe autumn will provide a harmala combo out of this - speaking of which:

the rue plant seems pretty happy. It's great to have yet another...
Im a daily harmala user, and ive been experimenting with alot off not well known plants to combine with rue, recently, i got some coleus leaves as i heard that certain species contain some salvinorin, and turns out the one i got had some salvinorin (im pretty sure), at first i started with 2-3 leaves, and it wasnt very hallucinogenic, but i was more sensitive to light and sound, music sounded really really good, almost heavenly, and i felt unusually clear headed, like no thoughts in my head, it was like i was isolated in a huge space, which was my mind.
The second day i took about 5-8...
I have tried lemon balm with rue at the beggining, but tbh one of if not the main aspect i like about the rue is the stimulant effect, i find lemon balm and other gabaergics to somewhat smooth it out, although i have found that valerian root can boost some aspects of the rue, like visuals and introspection.
I really recommend you try lions mane, it really goes hand in hand with rue and really adds depth to it, and massively increases the benefits, ime.
I also find nutmeg or mace to go really nicely with rue, i even somewhat enjoy it more than cannabis+rue, i picked up some cannabis a month or two ago after stopping for years, i smoked daily for like a month and stopped like a few weeks ago, i find cannabis increases the "wisdom teaching" effect of rue, and also cannabis seems to have a reverse tolerance when rue is taken daily with it, nutmeg+rue on the other hand for me is mostly just an enjoyable euphoric mix, and tolerance builds instantly so i mostly take it once every 1-2 weeks, nutmeg is more consistantly enjoyable for me than cannabis but cannabis can definitely be more medicinal, both with the rue ofc.
I have also found saffron threads to be a nice addition to the rue, but it somewhat blunts the spiritual effect of rue and just makes the experience more euphoric, i use it every once in a while when i just want to be social or just enjoy myself.
But out of all the combos i tried, lions mane is the best daily companion with rue, ime, it is also ime essential if your trying to get the most out of cannabis+rue, i was eating the mushroom the whole time when i was smoking.
