DMT Marquis test, result = Amphetamine?????

Has anyone ever heard of DMT showing up as an Amphetamine on common pill testers such as Marquis?

What do you mean exactly? You have pictures?

DMT turns brownish with marquis which is somewhat similar but darker than amphetamine's orange. With ehrlich reagent, DMT should turn purple and amphetamine should not react.

No SWIM has no pictures.
SWIM got caught with some crystal DMT by the police in Australia.
SWIM's crystal was tested (out of the room) and brought back to be a positive amphetamine sample in a marquis tester.

This seemed very suss to SWIM, so I thought I would ask if anyone has had anything similar happen,
or if this could just be a police setup....

did you extract the DMT yourself?

we had someone from Oz on here not to long ago who had bought what they thought to be DMT but when they posted some pics the crystals looked very much like Meth.

No SWIM extracted this himself from MHRB as he has done many times. It was very white and very pure.
And there is no possibility of Lye remaining in the product. (As far as I know)

thats quite strange, maybe they didnt test it and just went with what they thought it was.

good skills getting MHRB in Oz, my friend cant get any due to it needeing to be imported.

I hope nothing bad comes from your predicament.

Yes very strange.
SWIM was actually shown the tester and the police were laughing pointing to the relevant colours indicating methamphetamine. As SWIM's lawyer advised him to explain it is a natural substance...

And thank you, SWIM seems to have found a relationship with Australian Customs,
and hasn't had a problem importing into Aus.

SWIM has been to court where he did not end up getting a conviction,
And the issue has been sorted.

marquis is not a good reagent to test DMT. It's a general indicator for
primary and secondary amines.

psilocybin will also give an orange color.

As said before, its not really strange, its just that there are a lot of things which turn orangeish with Marquis.. Harmine also turns orangeish, so if you had some harmine, which is totally legal, they would think its meth (or amphetamine, that also turns orange). So you see how using just one reagent doesnt tell you much abut a substance.. If you use several different reagents, like marquis, mecke, mandellin, ehrlich, etc, then you can see all the color changes (or no reaction) and have a better idea of the substance. But the police dont care about that, they do a first test just to see if it might be illegal, and later on they might send to a real lab that will probably test with gas-chromatography, and then there will be very little room for mistakes.

It makes sense that it may turn orange I guess...
Maybe the police should look into trying a different brand tester, so that their facts are a little better.

SWIM got no conviction, and in court the matter of the DMT was kind of skimmed over,
and there was more emphasis on the scales SWIM had with him,
and also the persons house SWIM was attending.

The person SWIM knew was already in custody for other drug charges, which SWIM did not know.
SWIM sent a text message to his friends phone (who the police now had) mentioning DMT.
The police then proceeded to lure SWIM to the house and arrest him.
SWIM demanded it be tested in a lab. Which was never done.

SWIM also had no history, and a very good cut throat lawyer.

The case really was a waste of time and tax payers money.
