Dreams and DMT

There is obviously much conjecture that dmt is what is produced by the pineal gland that may be the reason for dreaming.......

Well, I've NEVER had a dream anything like the hyperspace/dimensional journey........

My dreams seem to have one foot in this reality, combined, at times, with facets of the dream that are abstract compared to my "normal" daily reality..........

Thoughts?

but apparently the receptors that dmt agonizes aren't even active during rem IIRC.

they do seem to share some similarities, but that may not necessarily imply a connection.
 
I believe that dreams are nothing more than feedback loops from memory. When your brain goes to sleep it disconnects all your senses and lowers brain activity in the areas responsible for consciousness and rational thinking. However, these areas go into a sort of standby mode and since they still need input to work on, the brain will stream memories into the conscious to keep it occupied.

A more detailed and thorough explained on this subject can be found here. Mind you, it's speculation and even though there are some scientists who have a similar view on these things, very little is known about the psychedelic or dream process in the brain.

I never had a Lucid Dreams yet. So im not sure if the memory loops would work for Lucid dreams. I think more would notice.
 
several times i have smoke dmt/ used a large amount of an entheogen and blasted my dreaming self to hyperspace. it was just as profound as doing it in a waking consciousness.

perhaps this means it is closer than we think, it may be that dmt is simply a catalyst to what we can achieve without ingesting a substance

Mew: Terence used to talk about this, but you are the first person I've read or spoken to who has actually had the experience. Many talk of dreaming of being handed a pipe, and even smoking it, but the hyperspace experience doesn't happen for them. You are apparently the exception, not the rule. But I never doubted Terence. The amazing part of this is that without stretching the imagination too much, it's possible to imagine being able to trigger a hyperspace journey from a wakeful state. I mean, why not? Maybe that's part of the evolution our species needs to go through.

Check out the thread on James Kent's case against the DMT elves. Regardless of how you feel about his opinion on the entities, his neurological description of dream states is clear and compelling.

A few times I've been wakened as I was just drifting off to sleep... And experienced some crazy abstract visuals. It turns out that Salvador Dali (who famously said, "I don't use drugs because I am drugs) used to take an extremely short daily armchair nap. He'd sit in his chair with a heavy brass key between his thumb and forefinger, dangling off the edge of the couch. As he drifted off to sleep, the key would hit the floor with a loud Clang, waking him back up. He claims that he got many of his craziest painting ideas this way.

So... DMT surge as you drift off to sleep? Maybe at other key moments of the sleep cycle?
 
I have only smoked DMT a couple times now. Prior to DMT I rarely remembered my dreams. Since DMT I remember a few dreams every night for the last two weeks. Not sure if this is relevant or not, but thought I'd share. It has to be more than a coincidence I think....:?:
 
i took dmt in a dream before trying it in real life and it worked perfectly

but most often when i enter tryptamine dreams they're almost never like dmt by itself. Often its more like aya. really though it feels more like some wild mix of beta carbolines and various tryptamines. even with a touch of salvia at times

i think we bring back very very little of what actually happens during sleep. sometimes when suddenly startled awake out of deep sleep it will literally look and feel like getting pulled out of some unfathomably beautiful and integrated hyperdimensional mode of existence

Iv orders this special sleep-mask called a remee mask, its got internal lights that light up at certain intervals, and so you see the pattern in your dream, thus making you lucid. I'll see if it works...I agree with that feeling of getting snatched up during a dream. Is it a similar feeling when taking dmt?
 
My dreams are much more like Salvia than DMT, in fact.

But there is a particular moment in dreaming that reminds me a lot of my (very few) DMT experiences: the process of waking up.

For me, waking up from a dream is something quite similar to "waking up" from a DMT trip: its elusivity, feeling of a kind of "in-betweeness", and the process of gradual recollection of "this" world accompanied by gradual forgetting of the "other" world...
 
I am quite skeptical about DMT playing a significant role in dreaming. There seem to be two major arguments against this:

1) As was already pointed out, there is the huge elephant in the room that most dreams just don't feel, look or otherwise appear to be similar to DMT experiences. Where are the kaleidoscopic fractals, the machine elves, or even the sense of sacredness in dreams? Unless the dream is specifically about that, they don't show up.

2) If large enough amounts of DMT were produced in the brain during sleep to produce dreams then one could do the following: Take a dose of MAOIs before going to sleep and set your alarm to the middle of the night. When your alarm wakes you up you should be tripping, similar to an ayahuasca experience. MAOIs are also prescribed for depression, so sooner or later every one of those people would be going to their doctor complaining that when they wake up in the middle of the night they are hallucinating! This doesn't happen, and so I really don't think there are any appreciable amounts of DMT in the brain during sleep.

Me and my family all participated in a 5-meo-dmt ritual. My mom only did one session and she couldn't release or breakthrough and was really scared, about a month later she had a lucid dream where the shaman came out of nowhere and gave her her dose, the next morning she was almost another person and ahe couldn't describe what fully happend.

Ive also had really intense flashbacks for like a whole month and a half, dreams where i was dieing and getting shot off to hyperspace o a simple sleep paralysis where i would take control of my feelings, relax and bam i was out of this world.
