Drum and Bass / Jungle music

I think that's what so great about the 'new skool jungle' comeback, reinforcing today what was largely unknown to so many people decades ago, and bringing it back in a way that seems much more tangible, along with the advancements in audio tech. A lot of nostalgia nowadays for those who grew up into the scene, too.

Yeah, it’s pretty cool to be discovering all this jungle revival music as it’s coming out, in real time.

I love some of the top-tier dnb artists out there, but it’s really the jungle music that does it for me.

One of the main distinctions I’ve noticed is that while dnb rarely makes me want to get up and dance, even when I enjoy the music, jungle reliably has that sort of kinetic effect on me.

Additionally, having listened to a significant amount of hip-hop/instrumental hip-hop in the past, the sampled/chopped-up breakbeats feel so familiar to me, even though the overall vibe is completely different.

Here’s a great interview with Tim Reaper I watched recently, and really enjoyed. He seems to be at the forefront of the new jungle music that’s coming out, and has quickly become one of my favorite artists of the genre.

I love how chill, down to earth, and relatable he is. I’ll keep an eye on his touring schedule, as it seems like it could be just a matter of time until he comes to the city near where I live, which is arguably the epicenter of bass music in the US 🏔

Yeah, jungle is effective in that regard. Hard not to dance to it! I think anyone who has attended a jungle show can attest to this, ha ha!

Jungle definitely has some of its roots in the hip-hop universe. A great jungle chune that starts and ends with classic hip-hop beats; just seems to fit in perfectly.

I actually watched that video last week, ha ha! Good stuff. I've been searching the web for other interviews, ever since I got into Tim Reaper. I'd like to start watching more of his live sets. Sometimes its hard deciding whether to listen to more of his established discography, or just videos of him, and finding the time to keep up with new releases.

It's interesting seeing how his mind works, though. Its no wonder he has complied so much music with so many other artists around the world. He just has that natural junglist knack.

I bet! I’ve never been to a jungle show, but a venue in the nearby city hosts a lot of dnb artists, and I saw that Coco Bryce played there, not long ago. During the warmer months, I could wear my new Western Lore t-shirt haha!

I can definitely hear the influence of 90’s/boom-bap/sample-based hip-hop production, along with a dub-reggae influence in some of the songs.

I’d like to check out more of his live sets too!

I think he’s brilliant in terms of his ability to synthesize the old and the new in a fresh and original way.

The depth and breadth of his collaborations with other artists is also really inspiring.

Oh, awesome! Which shirt did you decide on getting? You'd definitely get some respectful attention wearing it to a D&B event. I wish there was more of a jungle community in my area but sadly not. Another reason to be thankful for internet connectivity. I could always make my own custom sweatshirts downtown in spirit of the almighty jungle, ha ha!

Yeah, honestly, I can't get enough of his work. If it were up to me, Ed would be first and last on deck for a spectacular jungle set, featuring some of his notable collaborative artists in-between.

I got the tan shirt with the purple logo on the front and back! It’s definitely up there with some of my nicest t-shirts, so I’m glad that I was able to get one.

I’ve been slowly making my way through the Future Retro playlist on Spotify and discovering so many good tunes that way. I’ve noticed that most of my favorite songs are collaborations between Tim Reaper and other artists, such as this one that I just heard today (I love the roots reggae sample thrown into the mix)…

Very cool! I hope you got a discount, too. 😁

Yes, The Meeting of the Minds collections are and still some of his best work, along with others collaborators.

A little something different from the one and only, Danny Breaks:
