Well for one thing you have all the fine folks and information at the nexus at your fingertips.
Safety-wise there are only two things you have to remember during this extraction:
1. Lye is caustic. It will burn your ass. Do not breathe in the Lye, or get it in your eyes or mouth, or on your skin. If you do get a lye burn neutralize it with plain old white vinegar. Ever seen Fight Club?
2. Your solvent is most likely flammable and toxic to breathe. Do not expose your solvent (naptha, xylene, etc.) to an open flame. Do not smoke around it etc. Work in a well ventilated space so that you don't pass out or go dumb from breathing the fumes.
Remember these two things, follow the tek, be discreet and you will end up having a blast extracting. When it is done you will have a sacrament of the highest quality for what is a pittance in work, money, and mental effort. A cake walk. Easy street. I was experimenting successfully on my first extraction. I ended up with pure spice, yellow spice, orange spice, and jimjam. I made changa with some caapi alkaloids, passion flower, and damiana. I highly recommend you make at least one gram of changa with your first extraction. It could make the difference in whether you really enjoy spice.
Extraction is easy because god loves us. I'd love to do it again but really one decent extraction yields practically a life time supply for the average person.
Have fun and above all Be Safe 8)
