Expected loss after soda wash?

I redissolved 4 dry grams and washed it, ended up with 2.75 dry afterwards. Solvent looked super clean before the freeze precipitation and during wash, didnt see junk in it really. I understand now that I got rid of some red polymerized dmt, thinking that it was plant oil and not dmt. But I was just wondering if there is an expected percentage of loss when redissolving. Is some of it just still trapped in the solvent I decanted off before drying the crystals?

The red oil can be very dense - different forms of DMT can vary enormously in density [cue @Voidmatrix' photo!] and the oil is probably the most condensed form. Sometimes you've just got to take the losses as part of the learning process - for I certainly have!

Next time you find yourself with a blob like that you'll know it can be recovered with a mini A/B cycle.

Further losses will have been incurred from the amount of product that remains dissolved in the naphtha after freeze precipitation, which is an imperfect process. Try to ensure that your freezer is on its very coldest setting - and I hope you've kept that naphtha!

Time to mention that Golden Rule again!
