Hi all! finally gathered all my supplies and felt confident enough in all of my obsessive research from the last 2 weeks to attempt my first extraction. I'm pretty ecstatic w/ the result so far and figured i'd share.
i had thought i'd settled on my tek 2-3 times before finally deciding to go with the spiritveggie tek mostly bc of the clear step by step video on his patreon. really left little room for mistakes if you just follow the directions and have quality bark. (that reminds me i have a crockpot, a set of strainers and a gallon jug of vinegar i can return to the shop lol. cha ching)
i won't go through the tek as i literally just followed it 1:1 on process, volumes, etc. pretty much 100%. the only difference from his guide is that i didn't use a magnetic stirrer as i'm able bodied and have no problem stirring and mixing by hand.
here's the rundown:
i had 300g of MHRB but only used 100g for this first extraction in case i screwed something up. i made my base brew and added my solvent and let it sit the full 24 hrs stirring every 3 hrs. then freeze precip for 24 hrs. on my first pull i ended up with 1.48g of white crystals and had a bit more but lost a fair amount of crystals when pouring off the solvent. tried to put it in the freezer to reclaim but for some reason they just look to be floating around in the naptha as what look like little gelatenous blobules rather than crystalizing on the dish.. not sure whats going on there. maybe someone can help?
i currently have my 2nd pull precipitating now but i couldn't resist doing a quick check after about 12 hrs and there are few crystals forming but there is definitely a film of spice coating the bottom of the dish. in the svg video his 2nd pull resulted in the exact same film and it was deceptively ab another .5g when he scraped though he was using a bigger dish so i'm not expecting quite that much from my 2nd pull. never know though. however much it turns out to be will be a gift in my mind as i'm already more than thankful for what i was already given from this extraction on the first pull.
overall im just baffled at how manageable the whole process has been and i'm in happy disbelief. can't wipe the giant silly grin from my face since scraping my dish last night. this forum has been a MASSIVE resource and i can't express enough gratitude for the wealth of knowledge here. even if for the first 3-4 days of lurking it mostly sounded like everyone was speaking a foreign language (sometimes i was convinced on purpose to thwart my research lol) but it slowly came into focus. it is overwhelming. but now i realize, it should be. it should take effort and a bit of relentless sticktuitiveness. it's really quite interesting to me how well that balance is struck for this specific extraction. almost seems cosmically deliberate..
*EDIT - Final results
Finished my extraction in full. just scraped the second pull and i got .41g from the film coating the bottom of my dish. putting my total yield at 1.89%. stoked with the results! now to test the fruits of my labor
