First STB extraction - white & yellow crystals

The vial on the right contains almost pure white snow with a hint of yellow. After reusing the same naphtha and applying some heat for subsequent pulls SWIM obtained the waxier yellow crystals on the left. The crystals were freeze precipitated with a single freezer-countertop-freezer cycle then dried using a furnace vent (hot dry air). SWIM noticed some oily liquid which did not evaporate and may be partly responsible for the yellow color.

SWIM is planning to do a recrystallization by mixing all the spice together with just enough clean, heated naphtha to dissolve everything, then separating the naphtha layer from any impurity layer and freeze-cycling to form thicker crystals. Will the recrystallization help to remove the yellow impurities, or will it just spread them to all the crystals? Is it possible that SWIM applied too much heat & air, forming some N-Oxide which would be inseparable from pure N,N?

You would probably be better off going to a soap making supplier and getting pure NaOH. But I know nothing.

Well I can tell you that SWIM seemed to yield a very decent amount off of his first pull. SWIM literally just finished a .01 hit through a water bong and It definitely is not weak. Maybe they had a different supplier then, but at the moment SWIM happy with product.

Very smooth.
SWIM packed the bowl first with a little bit of parsley, then a layer of spice, then another thin layer of parsley. SWIM was very cautious not to touch the contents of the bowl with the lighter's flame, and tried his best to vaporize it with the heat from the flame. As soon as SWIM pulled the chamber SWIM started to tingle. Then, the patterns in the carpet emerged, and had a 3d look to it. Tracers like lsd , and a very relaxing body buzz. Next time SWIM is going to step it up a notch, and double the ammount and hold it in longer. SWIM doesnt think he is quite ready to breakthrough.

There is a thread on here somewhere(which I cant find at the moment) all about Smoking it through a bong, a lot of people like the bong over vaporizering. And there doesnt seem to be any lost potency nor any re crystalizing when the smoke touches the water. SWIM used room temp water, and would probably recommend not using Ice cold water, but is not sure if it would even matter.

One concern I would have with a bong is recrystallization of the spice (although it might not be as much of a problem as I imagine). Perhaps this could be minimized by heating the bong prior to use, by running it under hot tap water or placing it under a light bulb.

Also the smoke is contained in a bubble when it goes through the water so maybe the tiniest amount re-crystalize but definitely not the majority

Interesting to hear b/c out of 4 different suppliers I have, by far, yielded much more from Secret Herbals's powdered mhrb than I have from Heavenly Products (first runner-up), ktbotanicals (...), and finally: bouncingbear (WAAAAKKKKK!!! Really, I don't understand what all the hype's about. . .). As a matter of fact, this is the supplier that I highly recommend to anyone seeking mhrb.

The only variable that I can arrive at is that perhaps potency varies with volume purchased. After exhausting nearly 10kg of mhrb from Secret H. (purchased in no less than 2kg amounts per order) I have yielded an average of just over 1%! Are you kidding me?

Also, SWIM finally got around to scraping up all the crystals from the first pull. He pulled .76 of off white crystals after 4 hours of naptha being in.

Not bad! For the last pull or two you might want to try immersing the entire bark/lye/naphtha container in a basin of hot tap water during the stirring and separation (temp of around 40 C or 104 F). Periodically replace the cooling water with fresh hot water. You will get a tremendous yield this way but it might also pull some extra impurities.

SWIM doing pull 2 now. Its been about 48 hours since pull 1. He will do the hot water bath for 3and 4. I dont think you ever got back to how SWIY recrystallization went. Im curious cause SWIM will probably do it in a shot glass to the 2nd 3rd and possible 4th pull if it worked for SWIY.

To be honest the recrystallization did not make much difference for SWIM. If SWIY's crystals are mostly white there isn't much more improvement possible. Only consider a recrystallization if you can see significant impurities such as dark spots of lye, or gooey or waxy yellow/orange crystals.

id say about 2/5 white, and 3/5 yellow. The lye/impurities were all in one or two spots on the tray, and swim avoided scraping this up, but it seems to be pretty clean. should swim just dump in the next pull or should he clean the tray?

I think he should clean it with naptha and add it back to the source after the second pull

After drying and scraping the crystals SWIM poured the next pull into the same container and stirred in order to dissolve any remaining powder.
