First time doing Mescaline. Any advice? Might add DMT as well

Watchout for headaches or migranes. This is the one issues that prevents me from taking mescaline or cactus. I would recommend having some anti-inflamatory pills on hand in case you sense a headache developing. For me it usually starts slowly building up when the peak ends and the plauteu begins. The headache reaches hardcore migraine levels at night following the experience. I think it's better to take a naprosin or two than having to deal with the pain and potentailly vomiting from pain. It might not happen to you, but I thought I should at least mention it to be prepared.

Enjoy your ride!
This has been my experience, even at low doses of cactus (maybe equal to 100-200mg of mescaline). Taking some psilocybin cleared away the headache, the one time I tried it. Might take some ibuprofen next time, as needed. Cactus/mescaline is so great, so it’s unfortunate that it can cause these extreme headaches.

You know that's the one thing I didn't get was a headache and I hear that's really common... I did have synthenic mescaline HCL tho so I didn't get any extra alkaloids from the cactus. Just the Mescaline itself. Maybe that had a effect on why I didnt get headache? 🤔
I'm even a super migraine prone person and I barely got any signs of a headache

Some people are very prone to mescaline headaches and other not. From what I have read and what I had experienced it has to do with mescaline rather than other alkaloids.

Interesting. I'm glad I didn't get a headache because that would have just ruined my whole experience 😅
I've had a cactus experience entirely ruined by a headache, but that was the only time out of several experiences, and was from chewing freshly harvested cactus from one particular specimen, so it may just as well have been from some other alkaloid. Prior to that I'd only worked with brewed, aged specimens of that clone, without headaches.

All told, I'm very pleased to hear that your experience went so well.

I had synthesized Mescaline HCL so no extra alkaloids, could explain why I didn't get a headache. I'm also very migraine prone so kinda surprised. Maybe the DMT helped with the headache as well and the small amount of psilocybin i ate at the beginning (only .5gs) contributed to no headache as well. Im prescribed sumatriptan for migraines which is very similar to DMT in its make up. My theory is the DMT acted similar to sumatriptan and killed any chance of a headache I was gonna have, that or the fact it was just pure mesc HCl.
Was gonna do my own extraction originally but this came up instead through a friend. Figured I'd try it first before deciding to extract a bunch. Definitely gonna have to at some point because it was awesome!

Given the effectiveness of psilocybin to relieve severe headaches in the midst of a cactus trip, pre-dosing with a low dose of psilocybin seems like it could be an effective safeguard to prevent such headaches from originating, in the first place. Psilocybin also potentiates mescaline, in my experience, so hypothetically, a lower dose of mescaline would be needed.

I'm glad you had a lovely time!

Anyone think the headaches could be related to vasoconstriction? I definitely experienced that on mescaline HCl, but never a headache. I vape cannabis with everything though, which lowers blood pressure. The rare times I do get a headache, cannabis usually clears it right up. Google says Sumatriptan is also a vasoconstrictor though, so I guess that contradicts my theory.

I was just reading about how the vasoactive effects of serotonin are relevant in studies that are using fMRI in research in psychedelics. It wouldn’t be a big surprise that the changes in nuerovascular activity would lead to headaches.

Anyway just some thoughts

I have thought about that but never tried it out beacuse I have avoided mescaline since my consistent headaches. To me it would make sense to dose some time at the plateau. Or maybe some vasodilatory herbs might work as well. Not sure.

Well I started my mesc trip with a half g of psilocybin so maybe that's why I didn't get a headache. I also smoked DMT on my peak which also can prevent headaches.
