The republicans or GOP as they like to call themselves, would want us all dead. Every single person contributing to this forum.
The christian fundamentalists, and at the end of the day they´re the ones in charge of the party, openly state that they even want the deadpenalty for childeren who disobey their parents.
So what would they want to do with people who use DMT or even disagree with it being illegal....
This is a considerable exaggeration. First off, the people who run the GOP aren't nearly as religious as they pretend to be. (Karl Rove, by most accounts, is a quiet Atheist) The real Fundamentalists are being used by the Republicans; they aren't running the party. The Republicans know that they can motivate them by talking about social conservatism. Believe it or not, the South was largely Democrat until the early 1980's. The abortion issue was a primary factor....the GOP made friends with the televangelists and baptist pastors....and within 10 years a lot of people turned to the Republican party.
Look, I fucking hate the GOP/Conservatives/Republicans, but lets be accurate about whats going on. I also don't know of too many Fundies who seriously want the death penalty for disobedient children. I'm not saying a few don't exist, but thats not a widely held belief. The people you are talking about tend to be Conservative and Fundamentalist only when it suits them. They are quite selective about applying their standards.
Also, the stereotype of Southerners being illiterate inbred hicks is just that. An ugly stereotype. As ugly as any stereotype about blacks, latinos, women, gays, and any other minority. That is to say, it has a root in history and reality, but you'd be a fool to assume that its true of most or all of them. There are plenty of intelligent, rational, unbigoted, good-humored Southerners. A vast majority of whites in the South never owned a slave, either. Slaves were expensive (~800 dollars or more at the time) and in order to afford them, you had to own a plantation and be sufficiently rich. Most people in the Southern US were never rich.
I know all these things.
But
1- what i don't understand about americans is that when you start talking in the same way about southerners as many southerners talk about all kinds of groups they would like to have dangling on some trees...THEN suddenly you're being accused of being prejudiced.
I can only conclude that right wing fanatism in america is a very, very big tabboo issue for americans to talk about.
Obama is being attacked constantly and if one democratic senator says that it might have something to do with racism than....ooooh, he's done it and people say that it's a disgrace to say such a thing.
They don't say it's a disgrace to say that obama is hitler.
So that's why i'm exagerating.
Because it's a taboo to talk about the right wing.
2-because it is such a taboo, many people underestimate the danger these people pose to democracy and world peace.
Everybody's saying: "look, let's forget about iraq, that's the past, we must move on".
But let's not forget about the past for a minute and look at all the ravage these people have made.
Everything: the terror attacks on abortion clinic's and government buildings, the wars, the decline of right for women to have an abortion, guantanamo bay, the renditions, the secret weapon deals (remember iran), the fueling of dirty civil wars and dictatorships from south america and africa to the middle east, the campaigning against taking actions against climate change, the double standards in the judicial system (like with rodney king, even in fucking LA), the pressure from the christian coalition on company's like disney to stop treating homosexual employees equally to heterosecual employees, the plague of gun-violence due to the overavailability of powerfull firearms, the absolute lack of labour-rights with as a result a case where people working for wall-mart where forced by their employers to where diapers because taking a break to go to the toilet would be too expensive, and the many cases of violence against all kinds of minorities.
The far right is leaving a very dirty stain on american history and it's influence goes on up to this day.
What if sarah palin becomes president? Don't say she won't because she's way too stupid. Everybody thought the same thing about W. He couldn't even finish a sentence properly.
There could be many, many more iraq's to come, as well as the rest of all the shit mentioned.
I would consider that a serious danger. Most of the bloody messes may be far away from home, but that doesn't make it less bad.
