Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the correct category to put this in but I'm just wondering can mimosa hostillis be grown in the UK?

Would have been quicker to type that question into google.
Too cold in the UK.

I don’t have personal experience but I do have some seeds that I can grow from. If you’re interested and like the challenge we could both have try and learn on the way and share our experiences? Maybe in a couple of years we end up with a beautiful scrub in the window sill🌴😁

Let me know and I’ll join you in your quest.

I understand but there tends to be a conflict between these common articles and reality. For example, there is a common misconception that cannabis cannot be cultivated in the UK, and Google will generally reiterate this misconception.

Therefore, I posted this in search of those on the ground level who could report an actual finding.

Absolutely, I'd love to try it out.

How did you folks get on with this?

Whilst it sounds like a UK winter will most likely kill the plant, I am curious about growing one indoors, either year-round or as a container plant which can be overwintered indoors. Has anyone tried this?

I have a conservatory (this is Brit-speak for a glass lean-to construction on the back of one's house) that my collection of non-psychoactive tropical plants enjoy, which could be a promising environment perhaps.

My experience of growing cannabis and, more recently, mushrooms has taught me how satisfying this can be, knowing the work that you (and Mother Nature) have put into the final result. Whilst it would be many years before I could harvest any root bark, I quite like the idea of having a living Hostilis to tend and look at regardless.

I've grown them from seed on a windowsill with very little effort. They're very attractive plants when full of foliage. Just give them plenty of sun and don't drown the roots. They didn't come close to developing root bark and I can't see any sized pot being large enough to support that.
