Harvesting bark

Migrated topic.

The Unknowing

Life is a dream, the heart a compass
Hi,

I've recently gone for a bushwalk and identified the Acacia Pycnantha.
There were plenty of young trees with healthy looking bark, but I found a few trees that had collapsed and were beginning to die. The bark on the dying trees is a dark reddish/brown colour as could be removed very easily by hand.

My question is,
Is dried out bark sufficient to make an extraction? Does the alkaloid content change with age?

The salt is added after the base in the solution, but it cant be used in a dry tek like the one you are using.
For a full on efficient 'food safe' tek you need to use fumaric acid then water crystalize but the latter seems a tricky one to get right but water crystalized spice must be so smooth on the throat and chest if only there was a bubblebag method..

I must be wasting spice. I have not weighed yields so cannot guess. Thank you for your help and I know you are helping many..cheers mate
